| I'm going to ask a question that may show how much of an ignorant American I am, but... We know in order to travel outside our country we need a passport. What is required for you Brits in order to say, take the Eurostar to France?

| We're required to take our passport as well, although it's not stamped and is only given a cursory glance, as we're travelling within the European Union. We're also required to have passports even when we fly internally, as we had to have ours when we flew to London to Manchester, so it's very alien to us to have a country where you can fly internally without a passport.

| Wednesday 7 May – part three: “we’ll always have Paris!” Finally we were into the lift and on our way up to the third level of the Eiffel Tower: The view from the top level is amazing, I think Sue and Steve were stunned by it. I know we were, the first time we went up here. It was somewhere here that the phrase “we’ll always have Paris” kept being repeated a lot. It would become the signature expression for the day! We walked around for a long time, just taking in the view and taking lots of photos of it. Maison de Radio-France, headquarters of the state run radio station Palais de Chaillot Looking towards La Defense on the western edge of the city Looking along the River Seine Looking up to the Ecole Militaire with the Parc du Champ de Mars in front of it Hotel des Invalides Tour Montparnasse Looking east along the River Seine The Palais de Tokyo and the Grand Palais to the right of the shot Grand Palais Louvre museum Tuileries garden next to the Louvre In the centre of this shot, you can just make out the Sacre Coeur cathedral Arc de Triomphe In the centre of the shot, you can see the Notre Dame cathedral Place de la Concorde Just as we finished up on that level, we decided that we should get a romantic photo of Sue and Steve to illustrate that they’d “always have Paris” Then it was down to the second level of the Tower for one or two more photos: La Defense Palais de Chaillot with La Defense in the background Sacre Coeur The park beneath the Eiffel Tower The view towards the Ecole Militaire and Tour Montparnasse with Hotel des Invalides to the left of the shot Looking back up towards the third level we’d just come down from ![]() Next: “where’s the hunchback?”

| Wednesday 7 May – part four: “where’s the hunchback?” Sue and Steve got some souvenirs at the shop on the second level, then it was time to head back down to the ground. Once there, out came the immortal words “I’m hungry” from Steve, so we got ice creams and sat there and ate them in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. The only problem was we had to keep warding off the sellers with their darned miniature Eiffel Towers. They really are persistent, but at least the police did show up at one point and they all scattered. Within a couple of minutes, they were back though. We took the RER train back to Notre Dame and headed towards the Cathedral. As we walked towards it, Steve kept asking “where’s the hunchback?” In we went and Mark sat down, while we walked around. Steve lit a candle on the way round and we toured the whole cathedral. It was stunning, perhaps better than St. Paul’s and at least you can take photos in here, although we avoided using flash photography out of respect. We were very hungry when we came out of there, so the next thing was to find somewhere to eat. On the way, we got a few more photos: Next: “stop talking!”
