Day 2, part 1....

I was up at around 7:15. I took a quick shower and went in search of coffee. The website said that there was coffee available, and I found it! It was in the sun porch, which was adjacent to the side entrance!

While the water heated (it was one of those cup-at-a-time coffee makers), I wandered around and took a few more pictures. The B & B was incredible, and the garden, stunning:

I met two of the three resident cats that lived there:

The first two shots are the same cat, and the next two are the same cat. They had to be twins, they were so identical! I would meet the third feline member of the family a little later in the trip.

I took the coffee back up to Steve and we enjoyed it in our little sitting area. By the time he took his shower and we both got going, it was time for breakfast.

Lin had told us that breakfast was served at 9. We got downstairs at about 8:50 and went out into the sunporch, where we met the other guests. There was an older couple from Sweden who had positively charming accents, and their daughter and son-in-law and their three children. They were currently living in WestChester, PA, and the young man was in the army, stationed in Germany. We chatted for a bit, and then got called into breakfast.

We met the other guests while we were at breakfast, a couple with a pre-teen girl who was the man's daughter. I smiled because I thought of how many places we took Mike when he was growing up, and we were the same family: Dad, Stepmom and child!

Breakfast was fabulous. This was our breakfast table:

We had coffee, orange juice, cantaloupe, fresh baked sticky buns, and croissants with eggs, cheese, spinach and hollandaise sauce. Steve of course, removed the sauce and spinach, but he ate three sticky buns to make up for it!

After everyone else left, we spent a little time talking to Sam and Lin. Lin was from Wells, UK, and had a very Chez-like accent. Sam, on the other hand, was from Boston! We never did get the story of how they met, but they have been married for over thirty years. In England, they were what they called "big fish" in the hotel industry. But as time went on, the children moved to America, and the grandchildren came, and they needed to decide what to do. So five years ago, they made the decision to emigrate to America. They found it to be a vastly different hotel world here. Very few places had food and beverage managers anymore (their specialty), and those that did were holding on to their jobs. So they looked around and decided to try their luck on a B & B. The only place they could secure at that time was a dilapidated B & B called Miss Molly's. Lin showed us pictures. It was hard to believe that the place looked like it did. After all, this was a HUGE piece of Chincoteague history, and the owners had let it fall into sad disrepair. Lin and Sam and their sons worked to fix it up, and you can see that it is a labor of love.

Sam went over a map of the island with us, to help us become familiar with the area. We were starting our day on Assateague Island, at the Chicoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

Ready to go:

We hopped in the convertible, put the top down, programmed Garmin and away we went...really, just down the road a piece! Left on Main, right on Maddox, follow it down to the bridge, and there you'll see...

Over the bridge:

And into the wildlife refuge:

We had been told that the horses could be anywhere. So with fingers crossed, we started our adventure!

Next...198 steps and NO EAGLES!

Wonderful, wonderful updates Sue. What a beautiful bed and breakfast you found - that wouldn't be out of place over here.
