| Very descriptive of the situation. On a rock in the middle of the ocean---Sounds like a small boat or an island to me. I can remember going out while I worked on a small island north of Key West to catch a large water spout tearing up another small uninhabited (I think) island a few hundred yards off shore. It was very scary to see such power so close and to know that at any minute it could close the gap between the islands and we would be the ones being torn up. The spout moved away and disapated just as I was leaving work and heading back into Key West. There were four more sighted on the drive back to the naval air station. Rough day to be in a boat on the south side of the islands that day.

| The entire tour was maybe four hours or so. It could have gone even longer, but I had an appointment, so we came back.

| A rock in the middle of the ocean Having been there, especially with dark clouds on the horizon, I felt more like the Empire State Building in the middle of the ocean ![]() What's even "scarier" is when there isn't a cloud in the sky, but you see water spouts popping up all over, and sometimes they look like they're chasing you!!! Great report Sandra, I haven't been back to the keys in years (1985) and it is bringing back some wonderful memories. The pilings that the mangroves are growing out of could be some of the old road/bridge ones, some have been there for over 60 years. If there's any kind of drop off by them, even as little as 10-12 feet, the fishing for pan sized fish is excellent. I don't doubt that there are alligators and crocodiles cohabitating in that area, we used to see them both around Homestead, Key Largo, and west into the Everglades. The small radar site I worked at on Homestead had a salt water fed pond out back, and many times we had both gators and crocodiles resting on the shores...

| I'm waiting for Captain Mike to get back from an Australian walkabout and he can remind me about what that bridge was. I believe he said it ws a railroad bridge.

| Captain Mike explained the many uses for his GPS. ![]() This device holds charts of the US waterways, even as far as Hawaii or Alaska. It can be used to navigate in the dark. It has information about coastlines, water depth, and can even tell you where wrecks or restricted areas are. There is also sonar that can help you find fish! After our fishing break, Captain Mike showed us another remote area that only a small boat could reach. Get ready for the ride! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It almost looks like it is fake, doesn't it?

| Neat pix. Everything is so close. Were you expecting the wildlife to jump out at every turn?

, that would be shooting with a camera, not a gun!)Besides, the area was so breathtaking that sometimes I just wanted to soak it all in without worrying about photos. I did learn that you can't wear polarized sunglasses while taking photos in the water. You can't see anything.

| I COULD! It was like nothing I've ever done before. Sometimes I had to push tree limbs out of my way.
