just found this! excited to follow you along on another trip!!!
Being a "New Englander" I am so excited for you to be going on a whale watch!!! My very first (of over 25+) whale watch was out of Boston!!! It can be an AMAZING experience!!! Can't wait to hear about yours!!! I really hope that you have good weather and LOTS of Whale friends!!!
I just heard on the local news that this year there's a record-breaking number of Right whales off the coast, so I hope that bodes well for your sightings.
Can't wait to meet you both! You'll be able to get a
Dunkin Donuts coffee fix pretty much all over town--no worries!
Awesome! It's just my favorite. I can drink it all day long. And I can't wait to meet you, too!

Great plans for Boston! I'm so glad to see that Laurie has recommended Mike's Pastry! I was going to chime in with that as soon as I saw you were walking to the North End. That Laurie is one smart lady !
I can't wait to see what this place has! I don't like cannoli's (I know, I'm the worst Italian ever!!) but I am sure I'll find something in there!

I have only been to Boston once and it was for business, so I didn't get to see much of anything. Tyler did a report last year on Paul Revere and he's been wanting to see the Old North Church and walk the Freedom Trail since then. I think a couple of years and we'll make a trip up there. Although it's a little tough being the Yankee household we are.
I think Meri is going to LOVE the train ride. My boys keep begging me to take a train ride. We've been on at train to NYC, but that's about it. I'm considering the autotrain for one of our future trips to Disney.
Wow, whale watching!! That is going to be fabulous. I hope you see lots of whales and take lots of pictures.
Big Dunkin' Donuts coffee fan here!!!! I give up coffee for lent and I'm counting down the days only 4 more wake ups!!
You can do it, Dawn! I'm really excited about the train ride. It's always fun to do a "first" with your child!

I can see I'm really going to have to take some good photos of this place (inside and out) for you all! I'm getting a lot of feedback on this pastry shop! I cannot wait!

I truly hope we get great whale action! This is the part of the trip that Meri is talking about the most. She keeps talking about "seeing the whales do tricks!" I keep telling her we might just see a tail or two, or maybe the whales will be out of town... just because I'm trying to keep her from being devastated if we don't see much. But we're both so excited about it! I'd love to see whales breaching and whatnot!

Ooooh! Well I hope all of the whales hang out another month and three days! I am really excited for this experience! I took a whale watching cruise in Canada and saw nada. Was a bummer. So I'm trying to keep my expectations low... but it's hard to do when I'm just so darn optimistic, lol!
Just a boring little update real fast... in preparation for the 4+ hour train ride from Boston to NY (and the subsequent one from NY to DC) I used up an iTunes gift card downloading new apps and episodes of various kids shows for the iPod. Phew! I'm not putting any of the new stuff on the iPod until the day before we leave, because I want it to all be very "new" to Meri... but it will DEFINITELY come in handy. I think I have five new tv episodes and three new apps...
I need to start thinking about exactly what I'm going to pack. I'm really determined to go with just one carry-on, so I have to pack accordingly. I'm leaving most of my toiletries here, and I plan to buy a few travel sized things when I get to Boston.
This is definitely going to be an interesting trip. The "packing light" thing goes against everything I believe in, lol! I don't know HOW to pack light. But I DO know that I'm not lugging tons of stuff all over the eastern seaboard... so I guess I'm going to learn, eh?
I'm trying to find out from friends / family if I need to bring a booster seat for the various cars I'll be in, or if they have access to one we can use. I'm really hoping I don't have to bring ours. It's just one more thing to lug...
Good luck with the packing! If it helps, Boston is a very casual city. Unless you're planning some very fancy meals, you'll be fine in jeans anywhere. Just be sure to pack a jacket or layers for the whale watching-- it'll be cold out on the water!
Sorry, it's been a little while! Phew! I don't have much to report yet, but I bought my PassPockets, which is a big piece of my trip... and started exercising in preparation for all the walking I'm going to do!
I can't vacation without those pockets now, lol. I put everything on them, and it really helps me to organize the trip in my head and helps me to be able to look back and see what worked and what didn't, and what all we did.
The trip is now 3 weeks and 2 days away, so I need to start figuring out what I'll bring. I am picking up more work shifts, because I need to get cash for the trip, lol. I just had to throw out a bunch of money on summer camps for Meri. But now she's all sorted out with five different week-long camps. She's going to have a blast! And I'll get a little quiet around the house.
So, as per usual, lots of working leading up to vacation... followed by two glorious weeks of being away!
More soon! Just wanted to let you all know I'm still here, and still excited!
It's going to fly by, especially with the extra shifts you're picking up. That's cool that you use the Passpockets for trips other than Disney. What kind of camps did you sign Meri up for?
