What: Trip to Marceline, MO where THE Walt Disney (and Roy too) lived as a boy
Where: Uptown Theatre Bed & Breakfast
When: Friday, May 27 - Saturday, May 28, 2011
Why: We wanted to do something to celebrate our 5 year anniversary and when I discovered Marceline it was a no brainer to learn where our happy place was probably dreamed up.
In a way this started the night before, Thursday May 26. My Mom picked our boys up from daycare and then I met her at our house where I finished up packing their stuff and packing the car for her. She was going to be using my car since I had both car seats in already and she doesn’t have one for Lukas. Once they were on their way Mike & I left shortly after as we were going to see Pirates of the Caribbean tonight to start our anniversary weekend off.
We got to the mall a little later than we intended but still had plenty of time before the movie – just not enough time to ‘shop’. We went to the jewelry store – for some reason they like to send Mike postcards for free pearl earrings, so we took advantage and since tomorrow was our anniversary I got a present early. (This happened a few years ago too, but I lost one of the pearls right away. Since they were free I didn’t feel too bad, but Mike doesn’t forget anything.) We looked at the shirts in Hot Topic too – they always have great Disney and comic book stuff in there.
We decided we better head to the theatre. We got popcorn, soda, and some candy (sounds like a good dinner right?!) before heading in to find seats. This was a smaller theater so we sat close to the back and in the middle – those are the best. And being a weeknight and a week after the movie opened it wasn’t crowded – yay! I hate crowded theaters – or when people sit right next to you and there are plenty of open seats.
Anyway, the movie was good. I enjoyed it. The first still is and always will be my favorite though. The mermaids threw me for a loop though – wasn’t really expecting to see them as something you might see in a Twilight movie.
After the movie we just went home. I was beat and went to bed. Tomorrow we would be driving to Marceline and I hadn’t packed a thing yet.
I think I finally got up at 8, which is late for us these days. With the kids gone it was easier to sleep longer. Mike stayed in bed for a while later. I lounged around a while, watched some ‘trash’ tv that I’d fallen behind on and then decided it was time to get moving. I was hoping to be on the road by 11am at the latest.
We showered and packed. As I was getting some last minute things together I realized I needed to grab a bottle of insulin from the fridge as my pump would need to be changed later today. Uh oh! No more bottles in the fridge! I could have sworn I had an extra! So I called in a refill to the pharmacy – no refills left! My doctor doesn’t get in until 11 and it was just a few minutes til so I tried – no luck. I finally got a hold of him and said he’d be in the office by 11:15am. I needed to run to Walgreens first to get some pictures I’d ordered that I needed to send with Flat DJ (aka Flat Stanley) back to San Diego, so we did that while we waited for Doc to get in the office.
By 11:30am I’d called Wal-Mart pharmacy back saying the doctor was in now and that they could call his office for the refill. We decided to shop around Wal-Mart while we waited for the insulin. As we were looking at the BBQ grills, Mike’s phone rang. It was a recording saying my prescription was ready!! That was fast! So by 12pm I was getting my insulin and we were heading out.
Since it was already noon we decided we better eat something before getting too far. We tried Chik-fil-A, but the line was out the door and I just wanted to get moving already! So we went to Sonic next door and sat outside as it was beautiful!
And then we were finally on the road! Only about 1.5 hours after I’d originally wanted, but we were on our way!
We stopped at a wine outlet along the way and got a bottle for later, plus a bottle for my parents and one for Mike’s parents too.
