Being from East TN myself, I'm always interested when people go to visit, lol. Excited to hear about your trip!
Just an FYI: It's gonna be BUSY in the PF/Gatlinburg area when you're there, so just want to give you a heads up about doing G-burg and the Natl. Park - you likely won't see much of either one if you're planning on doing both on one day. Make sure you don't start around the Cades Cove loop in GSMNP (one of the big draws in the park) if you plan on seeing G-burg on the same day, as it's quite possible you'll get stuck for hours. It's a one way road, and once you're in, there's not really any way out except forward. If you're interested in Cades Cove, then I'd suggest going to G-burg on one of your evenings in the area.
You, too! I'll be cruising in Alaska after the Seattle trip-- do you live near any of the DCL ports?
Southeast AK is gorgeous, but I live in Southcental, about 30 minutes north of Anchorage. Have a great cruise!

I'm really interested in GSMNP, is there a way to see some of it without bumper to bumper traffic, (Friday AM) ? Thanks for your info, what would you recommend if we went to G-burg one evening?
These are not firm but likely Any day without planned event will be visiting and hanging outwith family, going swimming etc.

Would like to go back to Pikes place but not on a weekend! It was mobbed so bad we could hardly move and didn't get to look much just because it was so crowded. Found Alaskan way! This was when went to aquarium and Pikes place.
Thought I would add a few of last years pics. So anyway these are some of our current ideas.
Plans sound great and from the pix you had a great time last year. Your comment about the crowds at Pikes Place is making me re-organize my touring plans. My days in Seattle are Saturday and Sunday, so I'd better do that area first thing in the morning before the crowds. Thanks for the warning!

Definitely go early, they open at 9am. We did the aquarium, had a picnic lunch then went there. I think we would have better off to switch the places around but I didn't know about how crowded it would be.
Nice plans! I feel very lucky now that we were in Seattle in the middle of the week. Pike Place was nice and quiet and we went to the aquarium in the middle of the afternoon and again, no real crowds there.

Talked to DD(29) and grandsons tonight on Skype and asked if grandsons had any ideas for their pick for a place they wanted to go.
Oldest (7) immediately replied, Family Fun Center, while the youngest (just turned five) wasn't too sure. We asked if he wanted to go to a place he'd already been like the zoo or aquairum or some place new. He thought about it for a minute and answered "someplace new" so new it is. Now I need to find a 'new' place he would like.

My best advice would be to go very early, and try to tour Cades Cove. There is a way to cut across to the other side about halfway through, and even if you take that shortcut out, you'll still be able to view a couple of the old cabins and the churches. I especially like the Primitive Baptist Church and it's cemetary. Here's a map - you would be turning left on Hyatt Lane to take the shortcut out. If you start the tour and you get there early enough that it's not too crowded, you could possibly do the whole loop in one morning, but there's a good chance it will be very crowded by 10am or so. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park Cades Cove Tour
For Gatlinburg, we usually just walk the Strip and window shop. The area of shops called The Village is especially nice. Mellow Mushroom Pizza, Cherokee Grill, and The Pancake Pantry have great food. G-burg has lots of hokey tourist traps, which we aren't into so I can't make any recommendations, but there's plenty to choose from if that's your type of thing. If y'all drink alcohol, there's a new moonshine distillery there too that's getting rave reviews, and they often have live music in the courtyard in the evenings. I dont drink, but the thought of Apple Pie moonshine intrigues me....
FYI about parking: it's hard to find at any time during the busy seasons, and if you end up going to G-burg at night, be aware that the private lots in town will jack their prices up (last time we used one of those lots, it was $5 for 5 hours in the morning, but $15 for the evening when we came back later for dinner! ). So, best place to park is in the parking garage behind Ripley's Aquarium - $1.25 per hour, max charge of $6 per car, and there's a Trolley stop right down the hill.
I was going to say, there are trollys to take you ro most attractiona in PF even from most campgrounds, and a route to gatlinburg too. The campground should have info on the trolly service.
