The 10th picture from the end of your post looks like a puzzle I did a long time ago. My Dad I used to put together a lot of puzzles when I was growing up.
Wow, if I'm counting it up right, that would be a challenge!
I'm sorry we won't get to see you guys this year either. I hope you do make it over here - you know we'll have a ball if you do! Hopefully, if finances hold out, I'm looking at a return to WDW in October 2013 - as we haven't been at that time of year since 2008 and I seem to recall we saw you guys then as well?
Honestly? Not at the prices they now charge for it - it's gone up hideously since we last went and I'm not sure it's now worth the money. However, I'm sure we can plan some other wonderful things together. The Halloween Party is a must, as is grazing around the Food and Wine Festival booths.
Memories, mussels and the Menin Gate – part nine: “I recognise you”
Finally back at the station, we paid our €3.50, the price for any stay over five hours (stay for less time and it’s even cheaper than that), which I thought was great value. I’d much rather do that than try to drive around Bruges. We saw one French car driving the wrong way around the Markt and some of those streets were very narrow with a lot of pedestrians around. Not a lot of fun.
We programmed daughter of Tim and set off again, this time aiming for Ypres, so that we could see the Last Post at 8.00 pm. There was some serious construction as we left the city, as you can see...
The drive out there was very pleasant with lots of lovely cow sightings along the way. A fair few of them were the beautiful Belgian blue cows that I absolutely love. They’re such an unusual colour and very striking.
As we drove along, the sun was setting, and it made for a beautiful sight.
Soon we were heading into Ypres, although we did have a few issues... it didn’t help that they had roadworks, which meant that the junction that we should’ve come off at was closed to traffic. We were soon back on the motorway and came off at the next junction. Not too much of a problem, except for the fact that daughter of Tim decided that was a good time to give up the ghost, managing to turn itself off in the process. Thanks very much for that one.... that’s the problem with sat navs. You do end up relying on them far too much and are lost if something happens to them. When it came back online, a quick U-turn and we were back on track...
We made our way into the centre of the town and had no problem parking in the same central car parking we had used on our last visit here. Even better, there was no charge at that time of night. Result!
We got out and got some early evening photos around the area, taking in the beauty of the area as darkness fell. It was lovely here and just as beautiful now as it had been during the afternoon when we had visited before.
Wondering how we took the photo of the two of us above? Here’s how...
We noticed that the fountains were now working in the main square, so we headed that way next.
It was then that Mark noticed that the chocolatier that we had visited the last time we were here was still open.
Ok, so in fairness, we had just bought a heap of chocolate in Bruges, but heck, we know this place is good, so in we went. The girl who served us was the same one who had served us before and recognised us immediately, which was nice. Of course, with Easter coming up, they had even more stock in now, with mini Easter eggs, so I got some of those, as well as some individual chocolates.
Then I noticed that they had some chocolate liquor. Well, we’ve been huge fans of that stuff ever since we got some mint chocolate liquor from the Lindt chocolate factory in Cologne, Germany in spring 2010. We’ve been desperately looking for more of it since then. Now, it might not be mint chocolate, but let’s try it and see what it’s like... so that was the sum of our purchases. Those made, we took them back to the car, so that we wouldn’t have to carry them around.
