-Our Party : Me Teresa (45) never been, DD Samantha (28) been a couple of times with her DH and his family, DD Kathryn (19 the day before we leave!) - never been-
- Our Journey: Leaving 29 May 2012, returning 3 June 2012
- Our Lodging: MGM Grand Lofts for 2 nights, then moving to Aria Lofts Penthouse for rest of stay
- Our Special Plans: Seeing Phantom of the Opera, Thunder From Down Under, Nunsense, and Cirque du Soleil shows Ka, Mystere and O. Apparently the girls also want to make me scream and possibly need to change my clothes by getting me onto the roller coaster on the Stratosphere (hence the title). There is also a chance we’ll do the Supercar Tours or helicopter to Grand Canyon (these are iffy)
This all came about in the last 2 weeks! Samantha decided this is what she wanted to do for Kathryn's birthday, especially since last year's trip for it was ruined by the addition of more people than we would have liked (Samantha ended up inviting her half-sister from her biological father and that sister's friend - they were 12 and 8, but both acted like spoiled 9 year olds most of the time, like bratty 4 year old on occasion).
Since Kathryn is too young to gamble, and I'm not really excited about the idea of putting my money in a machine and getting no candy out of it, I doubt we'll be hitting the casinos.
A quick check of the forecast for the next several days revealed something very interesting: the weather has been fairly mild in Las Vegas for the last few days, with temps in the high 70s, low 80s. As soon as we arrive, those lovely temps are supposed to shoot on up to a wonderful 100° plus! However, we've been assured "It's a dry heat." Yeah - as John Pinette said "This is what they're telling me as they're taking me to the ambulance" We'll see.
I'm laughing already, Teresa! I've never been to Vegas, either, but my sister keeps trying to convince me to try it. I'm looking forward to your take on the experience.
Teresa!!
We went July 2002 and it was 120 degrees at the Dam! Vegas was having a very humid week we were there.........6% humidity. So well of course these Hoosiers thought it was still quite dry and instead of being soupy and miserable, it was just HOT.
As for the coasters on top of the Stratosphere? My great-Aunt rode those when she was 70 years old and at that time was the oldest to do so. She was ready to ride them again any time you mentioned it.
If you get the chance, Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is really neat.
Have a great time! I love Las Vegas.....if they are still there, my mom and I enjoyed the Titanic exhibit and Bodies The exhibition at the Luxor. Don't miss Fremont Street at night.

Have a fantastic time!!
I don't think I'll be doing it. Watched a video with Kathryn last night. My response to the video? "How do I know the brakes won't fail? Unless there is a parachute strapped to my happy butt, no way." (now, we all know if Kathryn really goes, I'll probably go with her - Samantha can't go -she already checked it out, and she's too small for the harness, a problem I won't have!)
Glad your great-Aunt did it. Nothing wrong with people trying to fall off buildings at any age!

Both still there - we may do the Titanic thing, but the girls are not interested in the Bodies exhibit. We went to the traveling one here in Indy - it was in the bottom floor of the same building The Weber Grill Restaurant was in. That's right - smell of cooking flesh (steaks, etc.) while we were touring an exhibit of bodies!
We may also hit the CSI experience and go to the MGM previews shows. They screen possible new shows and get audience reactions - DD Samantha said she saw "Mike & Molly" a couple of years ago! They were even asking what people thought the show should be called.
We've been in August when it was 110+ and it really is a dry heat. It does make your eyes burn, so eye drops are good to bring. There are misters everywhere too!
I can imagine why Bodies not appealing in same building as that restaurant....lol We did the preview show too cannot remember right now what we saw but it was interesting. Have a great time!!
So, today's the day. We're leaving in a few minutes for the airport (with a stop at the pet store because DH doesn't "know what kind of food the animals eat" so I have to pick some up for while I'm gone).
The airport is just a few minutes from us, so there is going to be nothing to report about that trip.
Today is Lauren's school's Track and Field day, and she is thrilled to death that we woke up to thunderstorms. They're gone now, but it's still wet and dark out. Plus, those 90° temps we've been having for the last week have dropped to 60°! Just as I get ready to leave for the desert.
I'm not taking my computer, at DD Kathryn's request. However, the hotel has computers and iPads for loan (free of charge). How wild is that? More amenities to come later.
