Finally catching up here... what a wonderful day! I never thought of having to smell that smell while walking by the cafes. I can't imagine how annoying that would be!

Amsterdam is lovely. The smell near the cafes would be the one pitfall, I am NOT a fan of that stench! I agree that smiling by the Anne Frank statue wouldn't be good, such a somber place. I would love to go there sometime.

Wow, Amsterdam looks so different from your winter trip!!
Sidenote: they have opened a Yo Sushi here in DC, at Union Station! It was 7 am when I walked by this week, on my way to work, so I didn't stop. But I did think of you!

Thursday 7 June – part seven: a magical second stop
Our next stop wasn’t far off. We wanted to stop in Antwerp, so we took the turning off, and as we did, the rain started. It had been forecast, but so far, apart from the odd short, sharp shower, it hadn’t been too bad and the weather in Amsterdam was just perfect.
We got quite close to our destination and then found a car park, although as we went up, I had a very nasty thought... but more of that later....
As we got in the elevator to go down to the ground floor, Wendy asked if we were here for a Disney Store and I just said “maybe”, silently wondering inside how she’d guessed. Well, perhaps it had something to do with the fact that the Disney Store was literally about 50 yards from where we’d parked.
This is the only Disney Store in the whole of Belgium (I did say it was a small country), while the Netherlands doesn’t even have one. As we went in, I asked if they had any Antwerp specific merchandise and the guy told me upstairs, so off we went....
Don’t ask me what this means – Flemish is one of the languages I don’t do...! Any idea where these guys come from? We were mystified by this...
On the way, we saw this really cool display, including my favourite donkey boy!
Upstairs, there certainly was a good selection, and I ended up getting the red T-shirt.
We headed downstairs to pay and as we approached the till, the woman there saw Wendy’s top, which had the Cavern, Liverpool on it and said, in great awe, “have you been there?”, to which Wendy replied That was it, she was chatting away to us, while the guy who first greeted us when we walked in (it turned out it was his first day and very good he was too ) was also chatting away. They were both so friendly, but I honestly did wonder if we’d ever get out or not, they were that keen....
At least they translated this one for me!
When we did, we wandered through the shopping area, getting some photos of the beautiful buildings on the way...
What fun! From Belgium to Amsterdam and back to Belgium-- to a Disney Store! It really does sound like a magical day. Was it late afternoon by this point? Definitely "time for a little something"...... chocolate?
