After the deposit situation (or lack thereof!!!) was settled, I figured I'd better turn my attention to figuring out how to GET to Ft. Lauderdale. One thing I was SURE of... absolutely NO flying standby!!! I started looking at ticket prices, and found that they weren't as bad as I had feared.
I was trying to coordinate with Toni as far as flight times, but her company hadn't bought the airfare yet. I didn't want to buy anything until I knew what her flights were going to be like, so there was a lot of back-and-forth with that as we debated the merits of various flights. Finally we figured out that regardless of the return time on Monday, I'd be taking a morning flight out of Memphis on Wednesday the 28th. Since I was going to be pretty much out of vacation time at the time of the cruise (the cruise takes up my last 3 days of vacation time for 2012), I would have to work on Wednesday. I didn't really want to do a night flight out, so that meant flying out early and putting in a full day from the hotel. That worked out well for Toni because she wanted to put in a mostly-full day at the office, then fly out around 5pm'ish.
After a couple of weeks went by, I decided to just go ahead and purchase my airfare, because I was nervous about the prices going up. So I let Toni know, and just decided on a mid-afternoon flight home on Monday, figuring that would give me plenty of time to get from the port to the airport without rushing or stressing out.
Then, I got a phone call from Toni. She was all aflutter again, asking if I had booked the airfare yet. No, I hadn't. Why?
Because her company was going to just book my flight when they booked theirs. At no cost to me.
Seriously. You could have picked me off the floor with a spatula! I was in complete shock!
So now it's a free cruise AND free airfare!!! Holy pajamas! How can you beat THAT?! And NOT standby! So I will just get to be a REGULAR passenger! Whoa! Laurie - bet you're so relieved, huh?
Holy Cow!!! You must be the luckiest person in the world. Congratulations on the free cruise and flight. How wonderful will it be to not have to worry about flying standby.

I KNOW!!! I can't imagine what it will be like to just have a ticket and get on a plane without sitting there anxiously waiting to hear...

I am completely floored by this. I'm bringing a small gift for my friend's bosses, since they are the ones that made the decision for this! It's the very least I can do!

Is that company hiring?
Which cruise line are you going on?
And seriously, what are we gonna do, not worrying about you running from flight to flight or sitting in a dang airport all day long????
Oops, forgot to mention that, huh? LOL! We're going on Royal Caribbean. I know - you all will be so BORED on the travel days, because I'm just going to just go to the airport and get on the plane with no drama, stress or fanfare!!
Am I relieved? I am seriously looking forward to being bored by your travel days instead of stressing all day! What an amazing trip. The whole airport experience will probably be one of your favorite memories! Congratulations!
Now, just get out the bubble-wrap for the next couple of weeks, 'kay?
