What is this: A pre-trip report about a week before we depart on our trip that we have been waiting for over a year. We are almost ready to depart to Aulani - we are all so excited. We started discussing this trip with my family at Christmas time last year. I have had a hard time finding trip reports on Aulani so thought I might give it a go...
Who are we: We are me & my DBF Lee. We have been DVC members since approximately May 2010, when after a few nights we fell in love with the Grand Californian and the ability to walk into the park from the hotel. Factor in two young grandsons and we were sold. Since that time we have taken three trips to Disney World and spent more time at the Grand Californian and have purchased additional vacation points.
How did this trip come to be: My parents have a condo in Maui and we have visited there twice in the last 7 years. We knew that a trip back to Hawaii was due and with the new Aulani resort we knew it was time to go. My DBF generously offered to each of my siblings (3) and my parents three nights stay in a studio at Aulani, knowing that if they decided to go that they would then hop over to Maui to stay at my parents place for the rest of their vacation. And we would stay at Aulani and enjoy the rest of our vacation solo. We typically go to Hawaii at the end of October. This year we wanted to be there during Whale season.
Who said Yes: My parents, that was an easy one as my Dad is on the Homeowner's Association at the Condo and they would be having a meeting in January in Maui. They knew they would be going for at least one month, would have stayed longer, but we will be attending my great Aunt's 100th birthday celebration in February in San Diego. My oldest brother was a no go as he and his wife would be going to Italy in May to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. My next brother and his wife said yes, (even though they are also going to Italy) Actually my parents are going to put my brother to work in Maui redoing parts of their kitchen while there. And last but not least my younger sister (at the time it was to be her and her husband) but they have since split up.
When are we going: We depart January 8th and return home on the 18th.
How are we getting there: Why of course an airplane, we will be flying over the ocean on Hawaiian Airlines. My DBF will be having knee replacement surgery shortly after we return home from vacation, so I was watching airfares closely and had budgeted a certain amount, I seemed to have got lucky and was able to secure some first class seats for a little bit over what I had budgeted. Hopefully this will help to make his flight more comfortable and he can move around a bit more. This will be his first time flying first class.
Plans: As we are traveling to Hawaii - this is to be a very laid back relaxed trip. We will be vacationing on Hawaii time..
Next: Our accomodations.... and maybe a few plans...
Can't wait to read about your stay! My husband and mother-in-law and I are going to Hawaii in October 2013 (first time for me and my husband), and we're very interested in hitting Aulani for a few days.
Oops, ran out of time to add to the PTR. Work has become crazy due to restructuring. After working 11 1/2 hours on Monday and sadly having to bring my work computer with me, we have arrived.
We (us, parents & sister) arrived Tuesday afternoon. Check-in was easy. We had did online registration and were greeted by cast members upon exiting our car with leis and our room keys, our rooms were ready and away we went. I was anxious to see what our views would be, as I had not had a chance to make any special requests. We booked Island Garden View. This is our view from our balcony. We were very happy, my sister and parents also have same view.
Wednesday and Thursday to come - - - - we change rooms today from our studio to an Ocean View 2-Bdrm.
