This sounds like a great way to get close to the elephants. And, it is safer for both you and them. We'd be worried if you tried to ride a wild elephant
Lou had a very good experience at the bear rehab place in West Yellowstone, and I wouldn't hesitate to support this type of facility in the future.
That sounds fabulous!! Glad you've hung on to that part of the itinerary!
Me, too!

It is. And the property has only 6 rooms, 12 guests total.

I admit I'll be disappointed if I don't get to ride, but will still be grateful for the experience. Even if I can get up the ramp, I'm not sure I can hoist myself up into the saddle.

I love elephants! Apparently the babies follow along as we ride the adult elephants into the bush.

Somehow I missed your post when I was quoting, Sharon. Trust me, on the wild safari I'm not setting foot outside the truck! I'm looking forward to the rehab center. It's run by the same woman who owns Camp Jabulani. She was the rescuer of the original rescued baby elephant, Jabulani, who is still with the herd. What a fascinating life!
How exciting to see elephants up close and personnal. That would a good time!! Excited to see your pictures and read all about this part. I can not believe you are less than 2 months from your trip!
That will be nice to see the animals up close like that and even though they aren't as wild as they others, I'm sure it will be a fantastic learning opportunity!
I think you will really enjoy the elephant sanctuary, especially knowing how much you enjoy veterinary procedures and learning about the animals. I temporarily had the same hesitation you did about them not being "wild" animals when we went to the Cheetah rescue outside of Joburg, but it ended up being one of my favorite things that we did! There's nothing like being SO close to amazing African animals.
