Just to let you know that I've just booked our hotel at Heathrow for the night before, so we'll be there and making a weekend of it!
That's so great! I was just looking at the restaurant choices at Terminal 5 and most of the ones that looked interesting to me were after security. The ones they list before security are Carluccios, Cafe Nero and 5 Tuns.... any thoughts?

I'm hoping that because it's a red-eye I'll be able to sleep. Thinking more and more that I should get some sort of mild sleep aid.
I wish you luck with the long flight. My longest has only been about 6 hours and around the 5 hour mark I start to feel pretty antsy. A sleep aid might be a good thing.
I say YES to a sleep aid! Have you tried melatonin? It's OTC, and my DD's pediatrician actually recommended we give it to her, so it's pretty mild.
I do know people who've used melatonin. Maybe I'll try it.

You read my mind - I was doing the same thing yesterday! I couldn't believe how poor the selection was before security, it's much better at Gatwick. I was looking at the menu for the 5 Tuns, I thought that might be the best bet - I don't know if you've seen its menu?
I even had a look at whether we could get over to the other terminals on the Underground, but it doesn't look that do-able with a scooter, which is annoying, as that would open up a few more choices...
I just found out that the Sofitel is attached to Terminal 5, although I'm not sure about their restaurants, but it does give us some other options...

5 Tuns definitely had some things I'd be very happy with. Vivre at the Sofitel looks very nice, too. I found some reviews, which were very good, but didn't find a menu. From the reviews, there was quite a bit there that sounded nice. I'd be fine with either one.

Cool - well, we can decide on the day. Heck, we might even do "breakfast" or an early brunch at one and "lunch" or a late brunch at the other, depending how quickly you clear customs/immigration and how hungry we are on the day!

That's an idea! I imagine they'll serve breakfast on the plane, but I can eat very light or skip it!
I probably won't make any trip-updates this week. I've vowed to do my taxes and also my mother's taxes this week, then will be going to visit friends on Thursday and staying probably through the weekend. This is good, as it will help the time to go by faster! I'm going to WDW with these friends in August, so we'll be making our dining decisions. Fun!
Good luck with the getting the taxes done! A nice weekend talking Disney with firends will be just what you'll need after dealing with those boring taxes Have a great time!
Taxes!!! Sounds like a whole lot of fun. I have to get my butt in gear so I can get ours done, but it's such a headache! Good luck and have fun with your friends.
Thanks, everyone! Taxes are a real drag. I'm still waiting for some paperwork from the nursing home, so my mother's taxes may have to wait for next week. Talking Disney happens whenever I visit these friends, but this weekend we need to really devote some time to discussing meals and making our flight ressies. Now, that's a fun weekend!
