Wow! Time is flying by! I'm so glad you are feeling better and were able to get out for awhile. Just a little more than a week and you will be in animal paradise!
Animal paradise.... aaaahhhhhh!

It's always kind of surreal when a long-planned trip finally is so close!

The countdown fixed itself. Sure was odd, though. But the 8 days it shows now is correct!

It feels great, even in the rain, to be outside.

Thanks, Kathy. My apartment is way too small to be cooped up in for weeks!
Another successful day out and about. I took the bus to the nursing home to visit my mother. As I suspected, she did not seem at all aware of my long absence, but was glad to see me. Lately whenever I visit she has a long, mostly nonsense story about what she’s been doing. She’ll tell me she went “out for a beer”, “to a Beatles’ concert”, “downtown”, “France”. Her mind wanders but she seems to be entertaining herself with these imaginary outings. She’ll also mention going to school, and often seems to think she’s still a student living with her parents. Who she thinks I am I don’t know! While I was there the fire alarm went off and all the fire doors closed, so I had to stay longer than I’d planned. The noise from the alarm was so loud it was painful, but it didn’t seem to bother the residents, my mother included. I don’t know if that’s because it happens regularly or most of them have some degree of hearing loss. I’ll visit her one more time, late next week, before I leave. I won't tell her about my trip. I splurged on a cab home because I was exhausted.
When I got home I spent some time figuring out how to use the new photobucket—downloaded a resizing program and I think I’m all set now. We’ll see. I don’t think the photos are loading in order, though, so I’ll take the suggestion of some posters and make a separate sub-album for each day of my trip on photobucket. I also have a smugmug account, but haven’t been able to post to these forums using that site.
Glad you got to visit your Mother. I realize it's more for your peace of mind than hers, but that works.
I don't know how you are keeping calm, now that it is so close. I think there are a few stages where excitement peaks when you are planning such an adventure: 1) Making the Booking, 2) Finalizing all the detailed plans, and 3) when departure is so close you can't believe it!

I'm not really keeping calm, but am not as anxious as I usually am right before a trip. I often have pre-trip anxiety-filled dreams, but I think I vented most of my anxiety on here earlier on. I'm definitely in the "can't believe it" phase!

Nope! I never even heard her mention the Beatles before, she's never been to France, and she told me a month ago that she had gone to an "investment seminar".... definitely not something I ever heard her talk about! They have the TV on all the time in the common room, which is where she is all day, and I think she picks up subjects from the TV. It's so odd, but I'm glad she has something to occupy her mind a bit!

Thanks, Cam! Your sticky posts about how to deal with the new photobucket were a great help to me.
So glad you were able to see your mother and that you were able to get out and about again.
with the resizing programme and using the sub-albums for Photobucket - that's my approach and I find it so much easier. The other thing I do is upload one photo to each sub album and make a note of the link, adding in the [IMG][/IMG] around it. Then all you need to do is change the details of the individual photo...

I just find that so much easier for all the photos I upload. Hope that helps?
It's very helpful, Cheryl. That should make the process much more streamlined. Thank you! I tried to download the windows resizing program that you recommended, but my security package blocked it. I'm using the one that Shadowryter linked to and it works very well-- same idea as the windows one, making it super-fast to resize a whole folder full of photos. Yay!
Your stories about your mom crack me up! She really does remind me of my grandma, who said the reason her hair was red was because the ladies at the place she lived dyed it that way. It was still gray. No hair color applied.
I imagine there has to be some anxiety, but so much excitement too! It's so nice when the countdown is is the same month!

Your story reminds me of another one. One of the nurses asked my mother what color her hair was when she was young. (Her hair is white now) She said, "Oh, it's always been blond." She never had blond hair. Dark brown before it turned white!

Thanks, Marnie. Now it looks like I have some kind of malware on my laptop. Ugh.
