This happened some time ago. Or is this a new incident? I definitely remember this happening before.

Folks--this is a video of a news story about a guy who looks like Santa who was asked to stop giving out autographs to children at WDW. He was not dressed like Santa, but looks enough like him that kids approached him (I guess). WDW asked him to tell the children he wasn't Santa.

I'm not sure why the OP says something about "another costume change" in the Title of this thread.

I think the OP is referencing the incident that just happened where the girl was dressed up like Tinkerbell and asked to leave and change

He really shouldn't have been signing autographs anyplace - let alone at WDW.

I doubt this will ever stop happening. In some cases, it's pure innocence (well, failure to think that there would be a rule against looking like Santa or dressing like a character). In other cases... Ask yourself why this latest incident was publicized at all. Who called the news media? Not Disney. While I can't comment on this particular Santa look-alike, if you do play Santa (or Abe Lincoln, etc.) for a living, a bit of news coverage can be very valuable. "Book him for your party - Disney thought he looked so much like Santa that they escorted him from the park!"

This shouldn't be news. Unless, perhaps, you're from a competing media company and think giving the other guy a black eye is "just business." Disney can't afford to take any chances. They are responsible for everything they don't do to protect guests. If something bad happens with one of these look-alikes, you know who's going to be sued by the injured parties.

Some years back, a well-known Disney expert started charging for guided tours of the parks. He had his independent tours meet-up in the same place Disney's official tours meet up. Wouldn't you know it, some confused guests thought they were joining the official tour they'd paid for, and were shocked by some of the things that were being said about Disney on that tour. They complained to management, and management shut things right down.

Bottom line? If guests can possibly be confused as to whether something is or is not official, or it can result in unhappy guest interaction, Disney is going to have to stop it.

What about that bride who signed an autograph for the toddler who thought she was a princess? Cute? Yes. But it goes against everything from the Santa and the Tinkerbell incidents.

When we were there last year we saw a Santa in line at TSMM. He was happy and spreading smiles, as well as cheery business cards. It didn't take away from anything. Some of the kids were like "cool, Santa's on vacation". Don't know if he was a CM or not. But none the less, it was no big deal.

I saw a version of this story that included a quote from the man involved to the effect of if Disney didn't want this to happen then perhaps they should treat him as a VIP and give him personal guides and backstage access so that people wouldn't see him.

While waiting for the MK to open one Morning, I had bent down to tie my shoe. I stood up and man stnding near me who looked like Santa. At first , I did not what to say anything , but then decided to say to him that he looked like Santa Claus. He smiled and handed me a tiny candy cane and said it was for saying the "S" word He was with his wife and was wearing Kahiki green shorts and a red t-shirt.
