NOOOOOOO Well i guess we can see how they can make the Starbucks in Main Street. That means it'll have a whole new Design then any other Starbucks. Lets just stay positive and it might not be that bad. Who know they may still have the same bake goods there that Main street Bakery had. Now its just time to wait and see:/

Not a coffee drinker at all, and I agree that putting a Starbucks on Main Street will really ruin the whole "Smalltown USA" theme. Not happy at all. Loved the smell around there...boy am I going to miss it.

I'd be ok if they added a little area to just order the coffee but not get rid of the actual bakery itself

DISBOARDS did announce this yesterday-they said its official and takes place january 2013

I am not in favor of this move on main Street at all!!!

leave Main Street alone-place it in the Contemporary Resort-I maybe able to accept Epcot Ftn View with one and agree with one in DHS-perhaps Writers Shop and one in Downtown?

If those who disagree with Disney's decision it is highly sugested you let them know your opinion via direct or email-needs to be done KNOW!!

I just read that too and was coming over here to post. You beat me to it! I am sorry but I am highly against it!!! I can't even believe that Disney would consider it! Whats next, a Super Walmart next to the Castle?!?!??! Shame on you Disney for letting a commercialized establishment poke its ugly head into the magic place. I like Starbucks....no offence, but NOT here!

And I can't figure it out......Main Street Bakery is always packed!

I would even be agreeable to one at Downtown Disney.....but NOT Main Street!

The Disney Food blog also reported it.

There is no information that they are not going to offer the same great food as always in the bakery.

And, having visited the place in Disneyland that offers Starbucks coffee, it's not themed like a Starbucks, nor are the food choices limited to Starbucks-only items.

My personal guess is that Disney will handle it appropriately at WDW as well. It's doubtful they will allow an outside company to have that much control over their offerings -- they'll probably just serve Starbucks coffee, but still have foods according to Disney standards.

That's my guess too. I read this on FB today and I just can't see Disney allowing such a big commercialized "store" on property let alone Main St USA. Fingers Crossed!!

It would make more sense to add a Starbucks barrista area to the bakery, and continue selling the same bakery items they always have.

I'll agree with all of you! Wish there was something we could do about this. My husband rarely gets upset about anything but even he feels this is a terrible move by Disney. I love my bakery donuts and hot chocolate in the morning but little by little Disney seems to be chipping away at beloved institutions and its worrisome!

That's actually what I'm betting they're doing. The Bakery is very large.

When was the last time the Bakery was rehabbed?

I am very upset that this is happening but the Disney park blogs sounds like it might just be an addition, not a replacement (They even said in the comments that selected favorites will stay from the bakery). I have included the information with some emphasis that makes it sound like they are simply now offering Starbucks stuff. However, if it does change, I will be sending letters and be very angry!

At Magic Kingdom Park, Main Street Bakery will close for refurbishment in January 2013 and reopen as a Starbucks location in early summer. At Epcot, Fountain View will close in March 2013 and reopen as a Starbucks location in midsummer.
Both locations will be designed to fit the theme of their surroundings. At Magic Kingdom Park, for example, cast members will wear a costume consistent with the early 20th century look and feel of Main Street, U.S.A. At Future World in Epcot, the new Starbucks location and cast member costumes will be designed to match the park’s futuristic theme.
The Starbucks locations at Magic Kingdom Park and Epcot will both offer the full complement of Starbucks® signature beverages, artisan breakfast sandwiches and a wide selection of baked goods, including muffins, scones and specialty treats.

Does this mean that the menus will change to only serve Starbucks products (baked goods)? Or will the traditional Main Street Bakery goods still be available? Some of the baked goods are favorites – like the cupcakes – and will certainly be missed if the menu is just like a Starbucks down the street from our homes.

Thomas Smith on November 10th, 2012 at 9:51 am

Hi Amy, yes there will be a selection of Disney favorites that you’ve enjoyed at the bakery over the years.

If what they've done at DCA (Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Cafe) is any measure (and it should be), the Main Street Bakery will return much as it was before, with Disney-supplied food items. It could well return as "Main St. Bakery and Cafe," for obvious reasons. Disney is not going to break with the Main St. theme. You'll see the Starbucks name on the signage, but they won't name the cafe "Starbucks" - it's not an old-time brand name, like the Carnation Cafe at Disneyland.

The primary changes will be the coffee and relatively small signs that say "Starbucks." They do have to install the necessary equipment, and considering the time they've allotted to the rehab, there will undoubtedly be changes to the cafe's interior layout and signage - they need to make the layout for coffee service more efficient. Basic fact of life is that, as the only Starbucks in the park, store traffic is going to go up, not down. But when the dust settles? It's going to be all "Disney," with a shot of espresso.

When Restaurantosaurus opened at Animal Kingdom, Disney had partnered with McDonald's - it sold some McDonald's-branded items, and others that weren't. The theme was purely Disney. The snack stands that sell McDonald's french fries are not named or themed "McDonald's." The only exception to "Disney-first" that I can come up with is the new Ghirardelli at DCA - and it fits perfectly with the theme at Pacific Wharf. There is Carnation Cafe in Disneyland, but that name is carried on as a tradition - Carnation products are no longer served. Outside the parks you'll find name-branded establishments with their chain's normal decor - Like Wolfgang Puck's and Wetzel's Pretzels at Downtown Disney, and the McDonald's near the All-Star resorts - but name brands are consistent with the Downtown Disney theme.

The announcement about Starbucks came back in April. There will be one Starbucks location in each and every park. Since the announcement, it's only been a matter of where. They're also clearly selecting locations in the highest-traffic part of each park.

At Studios my bet is on Starring Rolls. The tougher call is at Animal Kingdom, as there isn't a cafe-like location in a central/maximum traffic location in the park. Will they build from scratch somewhere on Discovery Island, tack a cafe onto Pizzafari, or be satisfied to add Starbucks to Kusifiri Coffee Shop in Africa? At Disneyland Park, my money is on Jolly Holiday Bakery.

I know it's natural for any change to receive negative comment, but I just don't get it in this case. It's coffee and pastry. While folks show a general appreciation for the baked goods at Main St. Bakery, there's no one item that makes "favorite snack" lists. In fact, I can't think of any signature item there - you'll find the same items throughout the World. Meantime, complaints about Disney's coffee have been consistently loud - folks have been asking for Starbucks for years.
