"Cars Land has been a tremendous hit in Anaheim. It's such a hit with our guests that it clearly factors into our thinking about the long-range plans for our other properties," he said. "We haven't made any final decisions about if or when that might happen. [Our emphasis] But we're excited to see how much the guests are really loving that land."
Doesn't sound like a man poised to announce this anytime soon.

meh, I still wish they would do something entirely new instead of a copy. There is less and less of a reason for me to make a trip to Disneyland. Well, other than I just think it's a much better magic kingdom. I love that they have Indiana Jones and we don't etc...Carsland is my incentive to head out west as of now. I hate the idea of another Test Track. I love TT but we only need the one. I certainly wouldn't call this news "even bigger than the fantasyland expansion". That to me was MAJOR, Cars...not so much. The movie didn't even hold my interest.
Personally I think Carsland is exactly what DHS needs!
We never even venture to that section of the park. The backlot tour is dated and boring. LMA was ok the first time but I wouldn't bother watching it again. My DH loves it though.

Yes, it's time for an update to something new!
LMA and the Backlot Tour are weak on the repeat scale.
I'm kind of with Dana on this one. If they start duplicating everything in the parks on each coast, what is the incentive to visit the other coast? Carsland was the thing that kind of really made me step up and say, I need to find a way to get to Disneyland.
Though I subscribe to the notion that Disney prefers to (and needs to) maintain differences between Disneyland and WDW, in practice that often means "Do the same thing differently." I believe Cars Land East can happen, but it would be sufficiently different from the DCA version that fans like us will still want to experience both versions.
It might not be called Cars Land either... after all, the entrance to the Back Lot Tour is at the far end of Pixar Place. Two Pixar-named lands in the same park? Seems dangerous. At what point does it become Pixar Park in the public consciousness, drawing focus away from every other land and attraction in the park? That's why Walt called it Frontierland, rather than Davy Crockett Land, despite the huge popularity of Crockett when Disneyland opened. Over-arching themes are more durable than the popularity of any one film or character. Other than Mickey's Toontown/Mickey's Toontown Fair and Cars Land, give me another example of a land named for a single character or film. (I'm willing to bet it won't be Avatar Land when that opens, either).
From a business standpoint? The fact that hard-core fans like us feel the need to experience everything Disney has to offer is just a small piece of DLR and WDW attendance. For the vast majority of park visitors, they're choosing one over the other on the basis of geography (driving distance/airline miles). So, if an attraction draws crowds on one coast, it's a candidate for the other coast as well.

I for one hope that they do bring Carsland to DHS. I wouldn't miss either LMA or the BLT but I definitely think BLT needs to go period. It use to be really good when DHS was a working studio but now with the direction the park has taken (spotlighting the movies, instead of showing the how's of the movies), it just doesn't fit anymore IMO. And based on what I've seen of Carsland in CA, the only attraction that draws my interest is the Racer ride. The Mater ride is just a version of teacups which I can do without and the tire ride looks like something Disneyland had back when it opened and then removed for whatever the reason was (maybe not futuristic enough or something like that). Whatever the reason for it's disappearance, I would think that fact doesn't bode well for the current version of it, not to mention it looks difficult to maneuver and I'm sure it's very slow loading (plus very weather dependant I would think).
As for what Dana said about not wanting another TT, I understand where she's coming from but all 3 of us can't stand TT (we've been on it all of twice in 5 trips) but at least the racer ride, while the same technology as TT, it's a different ride. We like the rides with the storylines and this would be right up our alley. And that's not mentioning the fact the we do like the Cars movie. I'm sure we're not alone and that there are others who like the technology of the ride and would go to this ride over TT.

I totally agree with this point. I don't think a lot of us hardcore people understand how much less many people know about the parks - I mean who here hasn't heard people saying Disney World is in California or Disneyland is in Florida? It makes us cringe, but they don't know (or really care) any better. So adding something new to a park, even if it's something that is in another park, is a big draw to a lot of people who just go to whichever one's closer.
I think it's a little funny that some people are upset about the Cars thing, but I didn't hear one word of complaint when it was announced that Disney was putting the same Little Mermaid attraction that had already opened at California Adventure in the new Fantasyland area?
I do think it would be more advantageous to go with a more Pixar themed expansion, not just Cars, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
i agree with your point Dave on how =Disney "does the same thing, differently". I've been to both DL and WDW and been on pretty much every ride at all the parks. There are some rides at DL alone that are pulling me to come back to DL even though WDW has the same ride and WDW is much closer to me. Space Mountain in DL IMO is 1000 times better than the WDW version, I want to go back to DL just to ride Space Mountain!! Indiana Jones is another ride that I would want to go back just to ride. Even though Dinosaur is essentially the same ride/ride system, I prefer the Indiana Jones. I will still always go to both parks no matter how many so-called duplicate rides/lands they have. I just might not go to DL as often for financial reasons.
I'm hoping they do put a version of Cars Land in DHS. I've heard this rumor before and I think it will become a reality sooner than later. I'm sure Disney has planning in the works, but also needs to finish on the Fantasyland Expansion too.

I don't know that it's so much doing the same thing differently or just tossing a lesser version of the ride up because it's popular. This is a big reason why I prefer DL to MK. I went there first and when I went to the MK I was disappointed that there was less of a theme going on and all of the major rides were shorter and not what I was used to. I mean IASW is a big ordeal at DL and it's just another ride at MK. It was kind of sad to me. It felt like more of a rip off of DL, but that's just me.
As far as the Little Mermaid goes, I wish they would have left that in CA too. I loved it, but would have rather they chose something new. I don't like CA's lousy version of ToT or any other duplicate. I think there are enough Disney movies to make all sorts of different rides. I love that DL has Alice and Pinocchio and we don't. I love the Matterhorn and all of the differences. I'm glad that we have a new Snow White ride coming. I agree with the op that Space Mountain is better at DL too. I'm just thankful they are starting to do something more than just a motion simulator. I can't stand those and for a while there it seemed like everything was turning into that. Now, put a Mulan ride in Asia at AK and we need a 101 Dalmations ride, Lady and the Tramp etc...I think all classics need a dark ride! And while I'm at it...bring back the omnimover!

I've never been to DL--would love to go someday. I totally agree with you DisneyDana--there are plenty of movies, and I don't understand why they don't do more with what they have! I too have thought that the classics deserve their own dark rides!!

My DD and I were in CarsLand on Dec 23rd. We stood in line for over 2 hours to ride Radiator Springs Racers! But though it is the same general idea, it is NOTHING like TT. It was fantastic!

I have no desire to be on a plane for the long trip to DL. We could of gone there when we won a Disney Trip which would of been a perfect opportunity had we wanted to because it was free. But we went back to DW so much more to do, and much closer.
