While I was driving on WDW property, near CB, I noticed a sign that read Bonnet Creek Resort. Curiousity lead me up a very long driveway, passed four DO NOT ENTER signs and a number of workers to see a large shell of a resort being contructed. A sign read, Fairfield Bonnet Creek Resort.
I inquired with a few CM and one told me that Fairfield Bonnet Creek (FBC) is not a part of WDW. It was a piece of land that Walt was never able to obtain. FBC sued WDW for an access road. The CM told me that WDW will not give them bus service or anything.
Anybody know anything about this?
Yeah, we saw the drive and sign there this past August. Seems there was this landlocked piece of land there that Fairfield got hold of. There was a court battle and Disney had to give a right of way to it. So it will be in WDW, but on WDW.
Wow - could set some stiff competition for DVC! Joe gave me the "heads up" on this last month when we met in Epcot, and I noticed the entrance to the construction as we were driving back to the HRP.
I think you're right. It will be a strong push to sell. Tiki.. I don't know what kind of run they will give the DVC resorts, heck we havd so many options within Disney alone, then you add all of the other options in... Did I mention that I am a little biased.
But WDW will not be giving them buses. They will have to get some sorta permission to run their buses to and from their resort to the main gates of the various parks.
Well, this is certainly a surprising development. And I'll bet that the Disney head honchos are none too pleased. Unless they offer some sort of fantastic deals, I can't see these time shares selling all that well - not when people have the option of actually owning a little piece of Disney for themselves. It would really be like comparing apples & oranges.
The draw would be that Fairfield has time share resorts all over the world. So you could own a Fairfield time share in Gatlinburg, for instance, but be able to stay in the Fairfield resort in Disney. A lot of people don't go to Disney every year and like the variety of locations offered in time shares.
The DVC also has timeshares around the world. They are tied in tightly with Interval International, so we don't have to go to disney every year. Although we have never made a reservation outside of one of the DVC resorts... yet
I just saw this thread, and I'm kind of excited about it! My MIL bought a timeshare with Fairfield in Orlando about 2 years ago, and told us she was leaving it to us in her will! We stayed at the one in Kissimmee last year and we loved it, so this is great news for my family!
MIL and FIL used the timeshare to take a trip to Williamsburg, VA this year and my husband has been eyeing the resort in Colorado for a ski trip. If Bonnet Creek is available in the next year or so, I'll be planning a trip, too!
