| Just another update... One procedure is already being changed -- or changed back is better put! I remember them switching from the front to the rear cab to park the monorails. This accident made me wonder why they had stopped that. Moving to the rear cab allowed the driver to drive forward (even though he was backing out of a station). So they're going back to the old procedure. That should relieve a lot of guests ill feelings from the accident. But the article here implies the change came because of guest impatience -- not wanting to wait the time it took for a driver to change from front to rear. So what! A few minutes wait for a monorail during the day when they take one offline is safety in action. If someone doesn't want to wait, they have the option of the ferry! | Per the article in the OP, how terrible that it seemed so many "errors" resulted in this poor kid's death! Between the coordinator being gone and the on-duty manager being off-site and the kill switches not being engaged....oye. Just terrible. But at least, per the article above, they are seemingly going back to tried and true procedures -- ones that don't necessarily save time, but save lives instead! ![]() Thanks for the updates!

| Another Update 07/11 Alan Rubino was the driver of the other monorail and he is devastated, of course! But I think the media has been pressuring him and so he used a friend to be his spokesperson: Disney monorail accident: Driver of train that hit, killed Wuennenberg so distraught he is under a doctor's care - OrlandoSentinel.com Nothing new, but thought you might be interested. I can't even imagine what this cm is going through. ![]()

| If he's so distraught that he's under a doctors care (I don't doubt this), why can't news people take the hint and leave him alone!! They should be ashamed of themselves. Not only in this instance but in others where they do the same thing.

| Purple Monorail Retired After the devastating accident, I suspected the purple monorail would be retired. How could Disney leave it running when guests would look at the color and bring up the accident over and over again. So I was glad to hear according to monorail pilots that it is being retired. No official news release from Disney though! There was a vigil last night in Celebration for Austin. This is when the monorail pilots mentioned the retirement of purple. | I thought they would be retiring the Purple train. Or re-painting it. How very sad for everyone involved in that terrible accident. It would be a devastating thing to have to live with.

| Thanks so much for all the links. I'm still distraught over this whole thing. What a wonderful CM he was. You could tell by watching that video. So sad.

| A very sad situation overall. I hope after all the facts come out that new procedures are put in place so this can't happen again. My thoughts and prayers are with the families involved. |
