I hate to toss cold water on the thread (so to speak)...

This rating is for highest attendance, not necessarily for having the best stuff. Disney's water parks are rated #1 and #2 for attendance every year. There's of course a reasonable connection between crowds and guest satisfaction, but considering the number of folks visiting WDW, Disney's water parks have a built-in advantage. When water park fans are polled on the "best" water parks, Disney doesn't always end up on top (but if not, they're right near the top).

It's kind of like the results for theme parks. Amusement park fans will, naturally, vote for parks like Cedar Point as "best," but when measured by attendance, Disney parks dominate the attendance rankings (both domestically and world-wide). Cedar Point isn't even in the top 10 for attendance (Disney and Universal usually tie-up 9 of the 10 top slots for domestic parks, and if the measure is International, Disney and Universal tie up all 10). There's a real difference between a true theme park (my feeling is there is just a handful of those besides Disney's) and an amusement park, but the industry lumps them all together when evaluating attendance.

Bottom line in all cases, Disney parks appeal to more interests and tastes, while many other parks aim towards specific niches. Sometimes it pays to specialize (thrill parks/coaster parks/old-fashioned-style parks, teen/young adult, etc.), but in most cases you choose to do that because you know you can't go head-to-head with the "product" that has the greatest mass-market appeal.
