MGM Studios Why is..

it partnered with Disney? On another thread people are asking why some on the rides haven't been updated is this why? Did Disney aquire MGM? Just random questions I hope someone knows.

well, partners might be a bit of a stretch. basically MGM was built to try to trump the Orlando Universal Studios theme park. so there were a couple of agreements made back in the day as Disney (to make a long story short) reached out to MGM to provide some of its properties as content in the park as well as another agreement to use MGM in the title of the park to make it seem more attractive to visitors. MGM was actually ultimately purchased by Sony and the title agreement elapsed (fueling rumors that Disney would be dropping the MGM from the name - which hasn't happened yet).

For what it's worth, when I got my vacation planning DVD from WDW this past week (like I needed any more help planning [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] ), MGM was referred to on the DVD as "Disney Studios"... [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/whistling2.gif[/img]

i should have mentioned that. part of the agreement is that Disney can't use the MGM in promotional materials. it's actually always been that way.
