| Well, maybe if Disney treated its employees better, they didn't always end up having under-staffing problems (Sorry, off-topic)

| I agree! If they paid more especially (Disney benefits otherwise have been good, at least when I worked there). Give someone $7.00, you might not find enough staff. Pay $10.00 or $11.00, you might have more workers to choose from! Or profit-sharing of some sort. Workers share in cut hours if the parks are doing badly. CM's work hard, and it'd be nice if they were rewarded as well when the parks are doing well. Just my thoughts!

| The quality of Disney's employment practices may or may not be the issue. The social and economic dynamic in huge organizations like Disney's is such that there will always be complaints (and reasons to complain). I'm already a refugee from large company employment practices, so at this point I wouldn't want to work for Disney or any other large company (I'll make an exception for PassPorter The basic reality is, service sector employment is high turnover wherever you go, and with WDW's roughly 60,000 employees, that means they have to find a lot of people on a regular basis. Last I heard, there was something like a 3,000 employee staffing shortage. That's in addition to the many thousands of vacant positions they're able to fill, every day of the year (sorry, but whether it's McDonald's or Cosmic Ray's, it's hard to retain staff behind the counter of a fast service restaurant). Even though the shortfall is just 5% of total staff, finding that 3,000 people is going to be a challenge, even to an employer who is practically perfect in every way.

| Dave - I agree with you, although... I do try to support a company like Costco, which has a GREAT turnover rate - the company pays their employees well, and give them terrific benefits. Fast food is a whole other story. I've done it, and it is hard work! But then again, companies like In and Out Burger (out West) pay their employees well, and I've seen a lot of comments from employees on how much they enjoy working there. Of course, I need to support them too - and I am pleased to do it. So there are large companies that offer quite a bit for their employees and prosper. I didn't really enjoy my job at Disney when I worked there (DRC), but they are now paying their agents for performance - and I'd bet the very high turnover rate has gone down a bit since. It still amazes me that Disney has 60k employees - and I think a lot of them are part-time employees there for a second job, and the Disney benefits (like free entry), like my DH once was. If I was closer again (I'm 40 miles away now), I might do it - but I'd be selective. Maybe work for Photopass or in a spa. I've had my days at McDonalds, and fast food is not my forte'.

| I would say look to a comparison within the corporation. Many have remarked over the years how much friendlier and polite the DL staff is compared to the WDW staff. I have heard and not sure it is true, that DL are paid better and treated better because some jobs are represented by unions in SoCal. Does anyone know ABSOLUTELY about this? My son has been hired as a WDW intern and starts Sept5. I will be very interested to hear his take from the inside of WDW. I am already planning to visit him during Mousefest (my 1st) and am looking to visit atleast one more time during his employment. Last edited by Sugarspr; 07-25-2007 at 11:03 PM. | When I was at Disneyland last week, I heard of a lot of issues regarding employment with the company there. When I first started going to Disneyland (10 or so years ago), there were a lot of older employees, who had been there a very long time and took great pride in their job. From what I understand, DL is having a harder time keeping employees - a lot more who are younger. I didn't have any problems with any employees there at all, but the only ones who really stand out for me are the guest services/tour guides. And the server who kept refilling my mint juleps, and one employee at the soon-to-be-closed Disney Gallery.

| I think that will be soooo great! Everyone will love it not only boys! I bet it will be really hard to get into for awhile though don't you think? Does anyone remember the Villians character dinner that they did several years ago. I know my little boy really loved it and then they took it away so this will be great!!! |
