When they say that mold can grow anywhere - I believe that to be true!
Our school building is full of mold - and I know that is why so many of us who work there and come back to school after summer vacation and get sick within the first 2-4 weeks!
Those pictures are scary! I can't imagine Disney not doing everything possible to remedy the problem.

I'd love to hear more about it!

The comment about mold always being an issue in Florida has me wondering now...every Disney vacation my girls and I get red welts all over our feet and legs. (yet we keep going back! ) Wonder if that's why? We've never known...

I know they have some awesome fungicide-type stuff that they use in the Nurse's Stations (healthcare facilities) in the Northern Canadian communities. He's brought some of it home for us to use in our bathroom. I'm sure any company doing mould remediation and abatement would have access to the same stuff.
I talked to DH who looked at the article and pictures. He is confident that it is surface mould, more than likely caused by humidity built up behind vinyl wallpaper (just his educated guess, not necessarily the real cause). It looks bad, but all that had to be done is the wallpaper needed to be removed, the walls scrubbed down and the carpet vacuumed. They should have taken air quality samples after the job was complete to ensure that it was clear. No drywall/wall board should have to have been replaced so it should have been an easy job.

And yes Heather, although he is no doctor - just very familiar with mould and the symptoms it causes - he says that the red welts on your lower legs probably indicate a sensitivity to mould.

I do occupational safety and health for a living. If you live in FL and you have wallpaper chances are you have mold. It's not toxic, mostly smelly. That looks easy to fix. Lately I've looked at a LOT of FL mold.

I also have friends who are in the occupational safety and industrial hygiene (indoor air quality falls into this category) department at WDW. That is a large department and I am confident that they handled it quickly and thoroughly.

Thank you so much for this info! I'm not sure what I will do with it (is there a cream for mold sensitivity? ) but it is good to hear another opinion that it is just surface mold!

This is a common problem in all coastal areas I think. Mold reports were the reason we didn't stay at the Boardwalk last year. So it can happen anywhere. Coming from the Mold Capital of the World since 2005 (thanx Katrina) let me say there are new, space age remedies for the mold problem. As you can imagine, thousands of homes and businesses in New Orleans were MOLD-rific after the hurricane, and the best solution I have seen in use involves a big "dome" placed over the structure and then some sort of blasting process involving bleach (obviously) and some other chemicals takes care of the problem toute suite! You can even leave your moldy clothes in the closets and they'll be wearable again! Don't fret my disneyphiles, mold does not a catastrophe make!
