Jr Chef program Q

The thread about Nestle leaving has me wondering ...
So many folks are lamenting the possible loss of the Jr. Chef program in The Land.
What's the big deal? I always thought it was just baking cookies? Other than the hat, what about it is so special?
Everyone is so hyped up about it -- if it survives I may have to put it on DD's to do list.

Personally, we haven't done this yet. I've always enjoyed watching the other kids though. I think the best feature of the program is the fact that it's FREE!!! My DD's love to bake, so I know they'd get a huge kick out of baking cookies in the middle of their WDW trip. If they eliminate the program, no hard feelings from me. But if they do keep it around (perhaps with a different thing to bake, brownies, cupcakes?) then we'll definitely give it a try.

I was looking forward to that, as my oldest is determined to be a chef.

I've always wondered this too. We've never gone either. We bake at home all the time so I can't see spending Disney time doing it, but then I wonder if we're missing out on something great.

I guess for me and my family it was the joy of watching the kids' team effort to make "cookies". Each kid had a duty and the CM made it fun too like tossing rubber eggs at the kids, letting them think they were real.
Our son was five last year when he did it and I think he really thought the cookie he got at the end was the ones he helped make Who doesn't like to see their kid in the spotlight anyway We kept the hat for a souvenir!

My kids had a blast doing it when DS1 was 9 & DS2 was 5! It was a neat thing to do inside (air conditioning ), hands-on (great for little ones who want to be part of the action), a good break (for Mom, Dad, Grandma & Grandpa) & a free snack in the middle of the day. I'm hoping it sticks around until June, as I was looking forward to showing it to my niece.

I think it's just a matter of them getting rid of something that was a lot of fun for the kids.

That does sound cute! Definitely no egg throwing at my house (though my two year old did chuck a dozen left unattended once - that hasn't happened again. )
