| A Little Bit Of Nostalgia I've just been thinking lately about my past trips to WDW growing up. My favorite trip was back in '87. I was 13. It was the last time I went with my entire family (Mom, Dad, Brother). I went back in '91 but that was a high school band trip. Then there was a 15 year break before I went back. My dad had passed away and I went with my brother and his family (wife, twin daus), and my mom. Anyway, we were able to go by using my uncle's Gold Key Club. He was a huge Disney fan and went to WDW at least once a year since it opened in '73. I'm pretty sure he was there for opening day! With this we were able to stay at the Poly. We got park tickets (can't remember if they were hopper-style). And we also got 2 meals a day included as well. If I remember correctly we used a Gold Key Card for our meals and possibly our tickets. I can't remember all the details, but it was not unlike buying a package today. I'm just wondering if this was the beginning of the vacation packages as we know them today. I know the packages have changed off and on throughout the years. I remember not everyone could get this deal back then. As I said, we used my uncle's. I certainly remember being treated like royalty. Of course the Polynesian is famous for their hospitality. Was this an exclusive club? Did the DVC grow from this? I know the DVC is a completely separate concept from what I'm describing. But the possibility of having VIP guests perhaps? Does anyone remember this club?

| I remember being a member of the Magic Kingdom Club, but I've never heard of the Gold Key Club. Sounds like a great club!

| I don't even know if that was the official name of the club. We called it that because the card that we used there was called a gold key card. I think I may still have mine somewhere boxed up from my many moves.

| Hey. I found an article that might be the club that your uncle was in. Sounded great! It's a shame it was discontinued, but it sounds like there is a new version of it. I'm not sure though. Benefits Extend Beyond Theme Parks For Magic Kingdom Club Members | Travel, Hospitality & Tourism > Destinations & Attractions from AllBusiness.com I just found something that says it ended the club in 2003. Disney Club- Disney theme parks savings discounts deals Last edited by gamom73; 05-22-2008 at 10:50 AM. |

| Hey thanks for those articles. I bet he was a member of the Magic Kingdom Club. The Gold Key Card was probably just a precursor to the KTTW Card now. I'll keep researching it though. Now at least I know where to start.

| I was a member of the Magic Kingdom Club - you could get it through your employer. Then they switched to the Disney Club, and I think you paid to be a member. Neither one had really great benefits. We got discounts on rooms, maybe 10% if it were available. Maybe back then the benefits were better. They ended the Disney Club when they announced the Disney Visa.
