| Dining Plan for 2009 Anybody have any idea when Disney will announce whether they will have a dining plan next year and what it might be? I'm anxious to see if they have listened to the feedback they have supposedly received about the lack of appetizer and tip on this year's basic plan. Personally, I hope they do a deluxe again next year - or some version of it, as we like to eat table service and character meals I may be one of the few who would rather do their own tip though... |

| I too prefer to do my own tip. We've had excellent service and then some really not so good service. I would guess the Dining Plan info would come out with the 2009 rates in early August. I'm sure once they come out all the info we could possibly want will be found here.

| The program is so popular (and such a big financial gain to Disney) that I can't imagine they will drop the DDP. What might change again is the price and what items will be included. However, the tip thing is rumored to be tied to a multi-year contract with the servers, so I'm not sure that this "issue" will go away. Eileen PS - I believe the announcement for 2008's DDP came out in mid-to-late November 2007.

| I agree with Hidden Minnie. A choice between app and dessert would be a great improvement.

| When did the free dining run this year? I am thinking if we can't get down to our friends next July to go in August instead and stay at a value since August is value season and it would be much cheaper. If the free dining started in August that would be wonderful. |

| It might be nice to choose between an appetizer or a desert (I would choose a desert probably!)

| I doubt that they will ever make the dining plan available to off-site guests, as this is a way to make staying onsite with a package more appealing to guests.

| The choice of dessert or appetizer would be my hope! I'm more into savorys than sweets, for the most part!

| Always watch things close on the free dining. I am going on land and sea in Aug and booked prior to the offer. Disney won't give us the free dining and because I booked through a travel agent won't even deal with me direct. I'm staying at the Poly and they told the agent for me to get the free plan I would have to cancel everything and start the entire booking all over.

| While I can see how guests would want the choice of the dessert or the appetizer, I doubt that Disney would make this a "feature" of the plan. One of the reasons (as inferred by many people studying this) for dropping the appetizer was to shorten the time a table was occupied. Guests with a three-course meal spend much longer in the restaurant than guests with a two-course meal -- thereby lessening the number of tables that can be "turned over" for another set of guests that hour. If some in the party would order (and, presumably, share) their appetizer and others would order (and share) their dessert, then Disney would have a big drop in the number of tables that could be turned over, not to mention the extra work for the kitchen to handle the extra course. Eileen

| My understanding when they announced the current Dining Plan was that it would run for 2 years (being 2008 & 2009). I also remember much discussion about the tipping being tied into the waitstaff union contract. (Somewhere is those long ago posts is a link to the contract itself.) |
