Did you check out the disney youtube page? There is a 5 minute video on there about the fact/fiction of the utilidors under MK. It's a bit long winded but interesting, try this link...

I've been all over the backstage area of Disneyland when in college. Our school made it to the Rose Bowl and I was in the marching band. One of our scheduled performances was at Disneyland (marching all the way through the park and then a huge pep rally on Main Street... and absolutely amazing and memorable experience!!! Still gives me chills when I think about it!).
Anyway, they took us through the entire backstage area. We were instructed that we were not allowed to take any sort of photographs and we saw a lot of the costumes, characters taking breaks (with heads off kind of thing), etc. Before and after the performance we had park time so we had to use a special "CM Only" doors. It wasn't anything special in terms of seeing anything, but it was cool to see the 'behind the magic' while back there!

having done the CP myself, I can say its really just a CM's way of getting to and from their "jobs". A lot of the doors are short cuts to get throught the parks quicker.

Never at WDW, but at DL we were actually diverted backstage for the entire length of Main Street. It was a very busy night (I think during the parade). It was very clean, but nothing exciting to see.

When DH and I did the Yultide Fantasy tour, we got to see a good deal of backstage area, and, the giant wharehouse where Christmas decorations are stored. It was pretty cool, for us at least, and we look forward to doing the tour again this year.

backstage magic also visits holiday services and if you go prior to november, you can see the warehouse filled. and i mean filled. (and if you've been to the warehouse, you have some idea how much that is).

I peeked, took a look around, wasn't too interesting. It was at MK by the POTC ride. There were a few CM's having a smoke (they didn't see me). It looked like an alley way in an inner city really. There were a few dumpsters with trash. Nothing you'd really want to see. All the action happens below you at MK anyway.
Also near the POTC ride, near the Dole Whip booth, we saw a cast member go through a CM only door. Of course we peeked behind him, but all we saw is similar to what is described as quoted - a few CMs standing around having a smoke and some trash cans - nothing spectacular or highly secret. I can't decide if doing the KttK tour would spoil some of the magic or not for me. As a teen I did Universal in CA. Now we are talkign in the 70s. It did spoil it for me to know that Marcus Welby and Beaver Cleaver lived in the same house!

Do not look....

My suggestion is DO NOT look behind any of the doors that could lead you backstage as CM's call it. It can and will mess with the Disney magic that we all try so hard to keep. but if you do happen to get curious take the Key's to the Kingdom tour. I haven't yet but going to.
