Princess lunch rumor

I just read on another message board that Akershus will be changing it's lunch. The CM that the person spoke with did not know if they were doing away with the lunch altogether or if they were just not going to have the Princesses there anymore for lunch. Has anyone here heard anything about this?

I haven't heard anything about this. If that is the case, then it certainly looks like a new Disney trend.

I hope not...we just had a wonderful time there for breakfast and now the girls are really hoping to try it for lunch. I guess I would have to think about dinner then but without the princesses I don't think I would go just for the menu...

I hope not, otherwise it does seem to be a worrying trend at the moment.

My question is "why"? I was under the impression that character dining was usually extremely popular, and I would think that the cost of characters would be counterbalanced by the popularity of the event. Is there more expense than I am imagining? Is this a Disney response to the economy? I live in fear of Disney cutting back live entertainment to save money; live entertainment is my favorite part of the parks, and I think it's a vital component in maintaining the "feel" of Disney. There is no replacement for the look on a little girl's face when she sees her favorite princess "for real." I hope the rumor isn't true, and if it is, I certainly hope it's not a trend.

I do know that there have been a quite a few people that have written to Disney asking that the characters be discontinued at Akershaus after they were added a couple years ago. Apparently there are quite a few people who really liked lunch there but did not want a character dining experience. Who knows, maybe their wishes were granted belatedly.

They must be trying to beef up demand for the other meals by cutting one out.
