Disney Stock Letter About This Page:

I received a letter in the mail today from Mellon Bank in regards to the Disney stock that I own, indicating that they had a breach and my personal information was part of the breach. The letter said that they were signing me up for 24 months of free credit monitoring through Experian. Has anyone else received a letter like this? Is Mellon the actual distributor of this stock?

I don't own any Disney stock myself, but I did read a whole slew of emails on another message board I belong to that discussed this very topic. Yes, there was a breach in their security and the 24 months of free credit watch is legit.

I received this letter too but i am going to call another number to see if it is legit. For some reason sounds like a scam to me. few things that did not add up. call but not the number in the letter to me it sounds like physhing.

I did get that letter. I went to the website on the letter, and it directed me to put a fraud alert on my credit file with the 3 credit bureaus which I did. I also signed up for the credit reporting. It never asked me for any credit card info. I felt it was legit, or it wouldn't have directed me to put a fraud alert on my credit file.

they manage the stock. their courier basically lost tapes (presumably unencrypted) which seems to be an all too common occurrence nowadays (a million to one says it's iron mountain).

it happened in both Feb and April.

I wouldn't personally put a fraud alert on credit bureaus though without reason. while it's a hassle in the fairly unlikely event your credit does get compromised, it can be a real pain to ever remove the alerts which will have a direct impact on your ability to acquire/accrue credit.

I wasn't sure how it would affect such a situation, but we just bought a car this weekend and the fraud alert was no problem whatsoever. All it does is alerts the creditor to verify your identity before approving credit in your name. Being a victim of credit card fraud in the past, I know it's a much bigger hassle getting something like that straightened out than having a fraud alert on your credit file.

We received the same letter. Apparently this affected more than one company as we received a letter about two months ago from Mellon Bank that a different stock we own was also breached....argh.

It is legit. Mellon is the transfer agent of the stock. Not sure how the breach happened, but it sure is a bummer.

I just received the letter over the past weekend. I already had a fraud alert on my credit reporting file because the local grocery store 'lost' my atm information.... It's getting crazy. It seems that every few weeks I receive something in the mail about possible compromises to my credit information. I've had 3 new ATM cards from my bank in the last year due to credit breaches.
