I think it's because they want to throw a good party to draw in the media. The more they "get the word out," the more they will have press coverage and the more travel agents they can impress.

I heard they were filming something for the Disney channel and they chose 10/3/08 because it was the least MNSSHP attendance date. I read a blog somewhere from a woman who had ADV for dinner on 10/3/08 in Magic Kingdom. Disney called her & told her she had to change her ADV to lunch before 3PM because the park was closing at 5Pm for "promotional filming". I also heard they chose that weekend because the "celebrity" that is filming the promo could only make it then.

i think i figured this one out, Ive been reading all the rumor sites and Im thinking that miley cyrus is scheduled to film some hoiday video that night.... this is why the castle christmas lights are already going up... at least thats what alot of the pages Ive been reading say tell me if you think im right guys

The press releases say she is at Disney Land that very same day celebrating her birthday, so I don't think she can be two places at once. The link was posted earlier in this thread.

i dont know they may be triying to pull a fast one on us because the rumor is shes why the lights are going up so early on the castle right now

Hmmm.... it's already been confirmed that the Miley Cyrus thing is being held at Disneyland and not Disney World. Also, the castle lights and the Osborne Lights take much longer than the other holiday decorations -- they went up this time last year as well.

I don't think that's it.

(8/20/08) A few of you have wondered just why the Christmas Holiday lights are being added to the castle so soon this year, and if the latest rumors are true the park may be used to film some kind of Hanna Montana holiday video scene.

This was on screamscapes thats what I was going by!!!!

Well... Screamscape is sorta right/sorta wrong on this one. The Castle Lights were a first last year and they started going up in late September in '07. Perhaps they learned from their experience last year and decided they needed to go up a few weeks earlier than that. They do affect the daytime "look" of the castle, so I doubt they'd put them up early unless their schedule told them it was a must.

I would not think it's because of whatever is happening at whatever press event they'll do at the beginning of October -- just their need to get stuff done before the holiday rush.

I think I read on another Disney board that they were announcing the Cruiselines 2010 summer special routes. I may not be correct.

They've never announced DCL special itineraries that early, and never spent money on a party to make the announcement. I'd chalk that up to wishful thinking.

If I've got my dates straight, Miley's party at Disneyland is on October 5th. It's possible that Miley could videotape something in Orlando on October 3 and/or 4 and then fly out to LA. If they're working on production of a single program using both locations, it's not out of the question to do that, since it generally makes sense to keep the shooting schedule "compact."

If there was going to be a major media event we'd know for sure by now. Nobody I know has received an invitation. There could be a media event of more limited proportions (Florida/regional media, for example), though, since that's the time of year they normally take place.

In Orlando, it's most likely a video shoot. It'll look like a party on TV, but it probably won't be. In Anaheim it is a party, and the public can buy tickets at $250 each (some of that money goes to charity).
