| As far as I know, there is no official release of Song of the South as a VHS or DVD. This is probably a pirated copy of the movie. This comes from today's Wikipedia entry: (Song of the South - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) "Although the film has been re-released several times (most recently in 1986), the Disney corporation has avoided making it directly available on home video or DVD in the United States because the frame story was deemed controversial by studio management, despite Uncle Remus being the hero of the story. | it's just an illegal copy of the VHS video from abroad. It's legit in that you won't get your money stolen from you, but it's not sanctioned by Disney. I've seen it. the quality is what you'd expect from an old VHS tape.

| I saw it as a kid and wanted to get a copy, but of course the ones in the UK won't play here. I seriously debated buying a different player, until my dh told me I was nuts! lol But I woud be surprised if it will ever be released here. Maybe I will buy a copy and take it with us when we go to London! LOL

| If you google SOTS DVD a bunch of sites come up. They make it sound like its a decent copy , not a copy of a copy. ( for as much as I looked) I would think that if Disney released it you would know from all the advertising, yet part of me thinks that it they may not give it a lot of marketing. I would like to see it released again. Last time I saw it was in Feb.1972 when I was 15. We went the Movies because it was snowing out. When we got home we got a call from my cousin who had gone into labor and called to let us know she had a baby girl.

| Yeah I was looking into getting a copy from the UK from ebay. But from the research I did the player we had would not have played the tape in the current format that they used for the UK and other countries. Also beware, the movie was never released anywhere in DVD so if someone wants to sell you one be assured it is a copy of a copy. I too wish they would re release the movie I have fond memories of it as a child and the PC aspect of it didn't occur to me as a child.

| We got a copy. It's not great, but I wanted my kids to see it. I love the Uncle Remus stories. And if you really WATCH and process the movie, it's not unPC at all. The biggest mistake that the made were in the costumes for the white people. It was post-bellum and the family was having financial problems so they should have looked shabbier. Other than that, great story, great message, great music.

| my personal take on it is that first and foremost, such a big deal has been made of it that if it were get to be released, there'd probably be even a larger backlash than there is now. i believe one term in particular is objectionable. it's a term so taboo that even taken in its proper context (which it is in the movie) has landed a couple of politicians in hot water.

| We got our DVD copy of SOTS off the internet about 2 years ago. As described above it appears to have been copied from a VHS tape. Clearly not Hi-Definition butthen again, it wasn't all that long ago that we would get excited about Disney releasing a new movie on VHS. As for this not being an officially sanctioned Disney copy-- I will be the first in line to buy the Disney produced DVD when they release it. Until then, I'm glad that I was able to get a copy of my wife's favorite childhood movie for her.

| I know I used to be able to get US VHS tapes and then get them converted here to a Pal format (the original tape would be detroyed to protect copyright). Is there not a similar option in the US? Even so, I suspect a VHS tape is the most recent 'genuine' copy issued by Disney and the quality of my UK genuine tape is certainly nothing like a DVD. |

| I am a member of the Disney Movie Club and searched on their for SOTS. Since they did not have it released, I was able to fill out a form stating to notify me when it is rreleased (if ever). Maybe if more people notify Disney that this is a movie that should be released again, then someday it will happen. Not holding my breath but still hoping.

| I remember seeing that movie in the theater when I was just 11. It was my first date. and his name was Jason. After the movies we walked over to McDonald's and had something to eat while we waited for his mom to come get us.
