Overheard at WDW~Space Mtn rehab I started talking to an Adventureland CM while watching people climb down Splash Mountain after it broke down for the umpteenth time diring e-rides night ( more on that in my trip report) & we were talking about rides being rehabbed & she told me that there is talk of a refurbnishment to Space Mountain.. they want to make it more like Disneyland Paris ( with the loops & twirls) she didn't know when the rehab was scheduled to begin but she estimated it to be extensive. Anyone else hear this?? DH & DS'S were thrilled to hear of the improvement.

Re: Overheard at WDW~Space Mtn rehab This one's come up before so I'd say there's probly some truth to it. At least in the sense it's an idea (whether serious or not) that's getting bounced around somewhere at Disney. I think it was about a year ago it first apeared then dropped off. Very interesting it's surfacing again. One of the things working against this happening anytime soon is the need for a new attraction at MK to offset the aproximately 12+ month period it's been said it'd take for a major Space rehab or redo. And more specifically the need for something new in Tomorrowland to keep folks in that end of the park. One thought was that the long rumored closing of the Carousel of Progress (along with the old Skyway station) would open up the room needed for a new E ride/attraction. I think the dates initially rumored were a 2004 opening for the new attraction immediately followed by a shutdown of Space Mountain with a reopening in 2005. Not sure how I feel about this one. Space is a classic. First coaster I ever rode. I guess I'd regret seeing it changed much but that's all sentiment. If it needs an overhaul it needs an overhaul and maybe there's no way around it.

Re: Overheard at WDW~Space Mtn rehab I wouldn't be surprised! I thought I saw on another Disney "spy" site that there were new rocket seats that are already there that need to be on the track, that offer a more smoother ride. I don't know how that will affect those riding it now, but I am sure that I saw the pic.
