Re: Disney’s struggles highlight amusement industry’s woes Well, on the bright side for us, I guess that means that WDW will continue to offer the great rate deals we've been seeing over the past year. We weren't planning on going this past June until we got that postcard saying $84/night for a moderate. And since the stock is rated "sell" I guess I should keep an eye on the price and grab some while it's low!

Re: Disney’s struggles highlight amusement industry’s woes Disney does have a fight for tourist dollars. I have friends who are not Disney-a-holics (how dare they!). They will not invest their discretionary funds for a WDW trip. They would rather renovate their homes (the heresy!). It's unusual for my family to travel to WDW three times in a 10 month period, but we did this year because of DD in the college program. Each time we visited, the Disney hospitality dwindled...cast members were not as committed to displaying the Dspirit. On our last trip, it took me an entire day to find ONE cast member smile! Check-in, shopping, general walking around...not a smile in the bunch. Disney has a problem with morale and dedication, and a free pin with the paycheck will not fix it. The HR department better find a way quick! This effects the others in our world who are not die-hard Disney fans!

Re: Disney’s struggles highlight amusement industry’s woes Thanks Steve, Really illustrates the catch they're in. Attendance was off after 9/11 . Then the economy slipped and Disney looked to some cutbacks/reduced hours here and there to find savings/adjust to lower attendance. Made sense. But now it looks like park numbers are staying down and we know the almighty stock price is hurting. So, I'm sure the temptation is there to find additional savings from the parks. But people expect a lot for thier vacation dollars so they gotta be very careful. It's a fine line they're walking. Of course ABC isn't helping any. Be nice if that money pit could start carrying it's own weight. [ 09-06-2002, 12:48 PM: Message edited by: mattjs ]
