Pleasure Island I keep hearing all sorts of rumors about the fate of Pleasure Island. The latest is that it's being phased out. Has anyone heard anything interesting? Jennifer

Re: Pleasure Island I've not heard that rumor yet but I highly doubt Pleasure Island will ever completely disappear - it certainly has always been full of people on every occasion that I've visited and Disney doesn't usually close down anything that attracts lots of people. Joy

Re: Pleasure Island I read (in my PP book I think) that they've lowered the price of a single admission to PI (perhaps to attract more people?). It seems to be going through some changes lately, but I hope it doesn't 'close' or change too much. The Adventurer's Club is SO awesome!

Re: Pleasure Island I think that's a panic rumor started by somebody who didn't know the situation. PI has been feeling the competition from Universal CityWalk the last few years, and since CityWalk has the club-by-club admission instead of one gate, which I think was the prime motivation for Disney to change their PI admission policy. There's also the added bennefit of people being able to more easily walk from Marketplace to West Side, and stop in the wonderful but little-known PI shops along the way. I can't believe that Disney would ever consider closing PI while it is so profitable and popular. I think they are just experimenting with some new ways to maximize revenue at PI.

Re: Pleasure Island I doubt Pleasure Island will ever close. I have only been to PI once and it was alot of fun. Now that it is non smoking I think PI will draw even more. As far as Disney Quest they had a DQ in Chicago but it closed a couple of years ago. The "concept" did not work in that area.

Re: Pleasure Island That would be a big shocker if PI closes. I hope it is just a rumor. It makes Disney a lot of money and it is a fun place to go to be with adults for a while.

Re: Pleasure Island Disney keeps tinkering with the "formula" for PI, and every time Disney changes anything the rumors start flying. I doubt a shut-down is in the cards, but I'm afraid that the only thing that will really revive PI in a major way is a serious overhaul - replace several of the existing clubs with new attractions, update the theming.... I'm not sure what will work, but I think the basic issue is that PI doesn't feel like a place that is being constantly updated and refreshed like the major parks are. While some folks will always come back for their old favorites (like Adventurers Club), others really need something new every so often to revive their interest.

Re: Pleasure Island I know the Pleasure Island "storyline" has *nothing* to do with Pinnocchio, but didn't the Imagineers even think about it for a second? I mean, *I* don't want to go to a place where I'll turn into a jackass! I've always *avoided* it, partially b/c I got my fill of rowdy, drunk people in college, and partially b/c I had the fear of the Lord struck into me watching Pinnocchio when I was little!!! I've always wondered what they were thinking...

Re: Pleasure Island I think PI will be there for awhile. Some clubs will come and go, like the recent closing of the jazz club (which is upsetting to those of us who love jazz, but given the attendance, not too surprising), but grown-ups are always going to need a place of their own at WDW. But then, since when am I a grown-up

Re: Pleasure Island I have been told by a CM that works in PI that the real down fall of PI is the West Side. He said that the clubs used to be packed all the time then West Side opened and PI was left by the wayside. Hopefully the new tickets options for PI will help change attendance. In my book they can change any club BUT Comedy Warehouse and Adventures Club! Those by far are the best!

Re: Pleasure Island I am a CM and the two things that are going on right now is the changing of the Jazz Club to an Irish Club and it's an ungated attraction now. Guests can purchase single or multiple club passes, but there's no gate to get in. While I understand getting people in to the shops and such, I have a hard time with the amount of alcohol that's served and readily available in front of such small children. There are other plans in the works to change the theming of other clubs..........we shall see what WDW has planned!
