| How to Become an E-Book Author How to Become an E-Book Author If you have a great idea for an e-book, love to write, and feel passionate about your topic, we'd love to hear from you! PassPorter e-books are high-quality, formatted books that are good enough for a bookstore shelf but due to their narrow focus are offered as an electronic book instead. E-books are highly-detailed and full of practical information for travelers. E-books can range from 50-150+ pages and receive the full "PassPorter editorial treatment" (developmental/copy edit, proofreading, peer reviewing when appropriate, and formatting). E-book authors earn royalties on the downloads of their e-books, too. The first step is to come up with an idea (or two) for an e-book. You may want to look through the Greenhouse for ideas posted by readers, or just reflect on past travels and the sort of information you think others would find helpful. The next step is to fill out an e-book proposal (see below) and post it in the Greenhouse Projects forum. Fill the form out with consideration and care -- the more information the better. Once it is filled out, go to the Greenhouse Projects forum and post it there. We will review your proposal within a few days and let you know what we think, then go from there. If we think your idea has merit, we will work with you to further develop your idea (if needed) and send an e-book contract. The information posted in the Greenhouse Projects forum is private -- only you and the PassPorter E-Book Team can view it. If you have any questions about e-books and/or the proposal, post your question in this forum or e-mail us at ebooks@passporter.com. PassPorter E-Book Proposal Worksheet Today's Date: Author's Name(s): Proposed E-Book Topic: Proposed E-Book Title(s): Estimated Number of Pages: Why is this e-book needed? (List any other resources that are available on this topic, including other books and web sites, if any. If others are available, indicate how your e-book will differ from what is available already.) Who is this e-book intended for? (Describe the audience for whom this e-book would be written. Are they beginners or veterans? Young or old? Singles or familes? etc.) What is your experience with this e-book's topic? (Indicate the reasons why you believe you could write this e-book.) Provide a working table of contents here: (Notes: PassPorter's guides include chapters -- arranged in logical order -- with related topics within each chapter. Include both chapters and topics in your table of contents.) Do you plan to include any of the following? (Please indicate approx. numbers) [_] Photos [_] Charts [_] Worksheets [_] Other Special Features: When do you think you could complete the e-book? (E-books must be prepared within a fairly short time frame to prevent it becoming out-of-date. Propose a reasonable schedule for completion that is compatible with your time priorities and motivation. We recommend you provide time frames, rather than specific dates, for each chapter. For example: chapter 1 - two weeks after beginning; chapter 2 - four weeks after beginning, etc.) Do you feel you could adhere to PassPorter's style guidelines which include grammar, spelling, and formatting issues? Would you be able to keep your e-book up-to-date on a quarterly basis at the minimum?
