I bought a waffle iron this weekend and would like some tasty waffle recipes to use with it. I found a recipe on line Sunday morning to make but it was kinda blah. Anyone have any with a little taste to them?
I've used the recipe on the back of the Jiffy Baking Mix box for years!! I have never had any complaints from DS, DH, guests or DS's friends who have slept over. (I like to serve them with strawberries - the sliced frozen ones nearly thawed are nice - and whipped cream )Freezing the leftovers in freezer bags works well too.
You've got me thinkiing we should have breakfast for dinner tonight!!
1 1/2 c all purpose flour
4 tsp baking powder
2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 3/4 c. milk
2 lg eggs, seperated
8 tbs unsalted butter (1 stick), melted and cooled a little
Preheat waffle iron
In a bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
In another bowl, whisk together milk and egg yolks until blended.
In a small bowl, beat the egg whites until firm but not stiff.
Pour the milk/egg mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until combined. Add the butter in a stream while mixing until incorporated. Gently fold in egg whites.
Pour batter into waffle iron and cook for about 3 minutes or until golden.
I think waffle batter is best mixed by hand with a spoon or whisk never with an electric mixer - the waffles turn out tough IMHO.
I generally just go with the standard recipe found on the side of the Bisquick box. I think it is actually pretty good. I however jazz up my waffles by using a variety of toppings. There is always the standard butter and syrup, but equally as good is vanilla yogurt with fresh fruit and granola on top. I also like fresh fruit with whipped cream on them too. You can always stir in a fruit such as strawberries or blueberries into the batter to add a little different twist to it. Oh, and vanilla yogurt with chocolate chips as a waffle topping rocks! Enjoy your new waffle maker!
Mmmm, waffles! Has anyone tried the Belgain waffle mix in the grocery stores? Those are my favorites!
"Madam, we must have waffles! We must all have waffles forthwith! We must all think, and we must all have waffles, and think each and every one of us to the very best of his ability... " Tom Hanks, Ladykillers
beat eggs approx 2 min until fluffy, add milk, applesauce, brown sugar, cinnamon and blend to mix. Slowly add Bisquick to desired consistancy. (Think melted ice cream). While you're blending plug in your waffle iron. When it's hot spray each side with no stick spray, you should only have to do this once. These are yum-o! I had to tweak a few different recipes to get this one. I always make a second batch to freeze - WAY better than Eggos.
I have a belgian waffle maker. I love it I use a recipe that came with the waffle book that has cinnamon and sugar in it. You have to be sure to use nonstick cooking spray on the waffle iron, though, b/c the sugar stick to it!

My DH swears that I make the best waffles on the planet...LOL. Anyway the recipe I use is very tasty even on it's own. It is from the Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook...aka the stepford wife cookbook...LOL! So without further comemt...Buttermilk Waffles to die for...
Rather than boring you with the other info in the cook book, I will tell you what I do from there. Combine all dry ingredients...add wet ingrediants and mix well with a wire whisk. Now spray the waffle iron with pam and plug it in. While the iron heats up the mix will set up and be perfect! Follow iron directions for amount of mix to put in...or do like I did and experiment with different spoons in your kitchen till you find the one that puts the perfect amount in the iron for perfect waffles...note this is the messy way...LOL. Serve them while they are fresh...yea no one eats together...and the cook eats last...but they are really the best that way.
