| YUCK! I'm having a glass of champagne to celebrate the night of agonizing labor I went through to bring DS into the world. It is so sweet... it is awful! Color me a rum-and-coke gal because this stuff just makes the back of my tongue repel with sticky sweetness. Either I'm totally unrefined, or this stuff STINKS. BLACH! ANYWAY!!!! After my seething review - what bubbly do you prefer, if any? I'd like to buy some for the birthday dinner (fancy-schmancy cheese pizza dinner with a Carvel cake. Please. He's four, and we live in New Jersey. What would a birthday be without Fudgie the Whale?). Obviously the champagne is not for the kids. But based on this CRAP I'm gagging down, I'm beginning to think wine would be better. I guess I need a drier champagne!!! Suggestions, please! PS. I'm glad I decided to try it before serving it. Lesson learned: sample it first!

| You've hit the nail on the head, Amy. Go to a winery and sample, sample, sample!! You can either drink or spit, and you'll find something you like. Remember, not everyone will like what you like, and some of the best wines/bubblies are cheap!! If I'm drinking bubbly, I go for the real thing - it can't be called Champagne unless it's made in Champagne.

| My favorite is Les Fleurs...Perrier Jouet makes it...it'll put you back a pretty penny though....might be better suited for an Anniversary dinner celebration rather than a little-guy-going-on-big-guy's birthday! For something a little more reasonable, check out Moet and Chandon....what were you drinking anyway??? |

| Champagne shouldn't be sweet really, it's not surprising you aren't keen. I won't give you my favourite fizz as I have the worlds worst taste in wine. Take me to a party and I'll be the one enjoying the really really cheap stuff nobody else will touch....my DBF says she's ashamed to be seen with me sometimes |

| I like Cold Duck YUMMM. I like any bubbly except dry, but I am a fan of the sweetness, so I'm no help

| Whatever you do, don't try ice wine then! Now, that's sweet! (blech!!) I don't like the true Champagnes, I prefer sparkling wines. I don't know what's available in the states so I don't know that I can make any recommendations.

| I love the idea of celebrating the evening before... when the labor started. I can do that with 2 out of my 3 kids! I just may have to do that next Tuesday night..... That's a great reason to celebrate. Sorry I can't help you on the champagne suggestion though. I don't like it. I'll be having either a fruity girlie drink with rum, or an Amaretto sour. ![]()

| I don't drink champagne, more of a white wine girl. I love Barefoot vineyards Pinot Grigiot and there is a Reisling that is really good (can't remember, but it's Australian and in a blue bottle). |

| If there is a white wine you like -- ask the wine guy at your liquor store and they'll steer you in the right direction. I think there is still a bottle of sparkling wine left in the fridge from Christmas here (decided Christmas with MiL and SiL required mimosas ) I'm more of a dry red wine girl myself.
