Look at the cake I made!

Just wanted to share some photos of the cake I made for DS' birthday party -- I think it turned out really great! (We had a party with DH's family at WDW on his actual birthday; this was a belated party we had with my family over Memorial Day.)

I wanted to do something Pooh themed and was interested in trying to work with Rice Krispies like they do on the cake decorating shows I watch. I think it turned out very cute:

The cake was 'death by chocolate' - a chocolate fudge cake with Ghiradelli chocolate chips in the batter, a chocolate fudge filling and fudge frosting. I used Cocoa Krispies to make the trunk of the tree and regular Rice Krispies tinted with green food coloring to make the leafy part. (The Krispies were formed around a cake pillar so they would stand up.) I was a nervous wreck that the tree was going to fall all apart -- my Rice Krispy treats were a little gooey -- but it all stuck together! Next time, I would make my treats a lot drier.

Hope you enjoy! It was really pretty easy to make and a technique I would definitely try again.

Great Job! I miss the days when my kids wanted me to make a cake for them. I did lots of character ones and other creative things. Now even if they wanted me to I wouldn't have the time. I'm sure your son loved it!

Yum Yum, your cake looks scrummy. I think I need to change my answer to Rob's question the other day from Victoria spondge cake to your Pooh Bear cake.
