| grocery shopping question Do you find yourself stocking up a little more now than before? I have been buying extras- today I bought an larger size bottle of olive oil and some extra staples- flour, boxes of pasta, some extra jarred sauce and canned coffee. I am really getting more worried about the cost of of food and figure its getting to be like gas- might as well buy it today because its only going to cost more tomorrow! Am I a nut case? Does anyone else feel that way????

| I've been trying to stock up on food more, but it's not been so much because of the cost, but rather because I'm tired of goign to the grocery store !!! Seems like there are more people shopping than before and my nice quiet A&P has become a crowded and not quite as... well... nice!

| We've always stocked up when the prices are good. We've got two freezers in the garage, which we keep as stocked as possible.

| My pantry is actually less filled now then it normally is I'm just trying to buy what I need and not overbuy stuff (unless it's a really good deal)! I have been going to BJs for more stuff though, and we're certainly stocked to the gills with paper products and such

| I do stock up on things like cereal and granola bars. Only when they are under $2/ box.

| I'll stock up on something if it's on sale and I know we need it. The more we pay out for gas, the less money we have for groceries, so actually we aren't buying as much anymore.

| I probably should be doing more -- with all of the flooding here in the heartland -- and the number of fields that it is too late to replant - food prices are only going to continue their increase. If our family garden ("farmed" by my parents) is any general indication of how things are turning out here in the midwest -- about half the crops failed (peppers, onions, and broccoli so far)

| We pretty much buy what we need. Staples that aren't likely to go bad or stale, we might buy in larger quantities. However for just the two of us we don't feel the need to stockpile food. Having said that, we do have a larger than normal supply of cereal and granola bars. DBF works for a large company that gives out samples of new product all the time. So we get to try a lot of things before they hit the grocery!

| I'm always ready for a rainy day...I buy on sale items and keep an eye on super specials and stock up large quantities of expensive items. I purchase meat after dinnertime so I can get markdown products and stick to my list otherwise. Knowing the price trend also helps - keep a record of when certain items go on sale and how much per item and you will know how much to purchase at sale time to get you through to the next sale day. (Eg the toilet tissue we like goes on sale approx. every 7 weeks so I buy enough for 2mths). I find my cupboards just as well stocked as before the interest hikes and petrol $$$ increases. Each season I also do a $21 challenge and use all the items in fridge/freezer/pantry for a week spending only $21 or $3/day on milk/fresh bread and other fruits. This ensures I stock up on specials and don't overpurchase on space hogging 'stuff'. Our habits have certainly changed...for the better!

| DH and I used to be "the stop at the grocery store everyday on the way home" type. Now, because of the high cost of gas and the higher cost of food, we do tend to buy more in bulk and try and avoid all the extra and out of the way trips. We do have an extra freezer so that allows us a place to store extra meat, chicken, etc..

| Not really. I usually buy what we need, with some extras as we feel like it.

| We've stocked up on a few items, but I am noticing that every week the food bill is more than I'd hoped for.
