DS cooking at BS Camp

DS is off at Boy Scout Camp this week and he and his buddy signed up for the Cooking Merit badge. They were cooking their own lunch yesterday. I'm not sure if this means that they were helping in the kitchen for the entire camp or if they were just making enough for the troop or just for themselves. Should be interesting to find out tomorrow night when we go out for closing ceremonies. You know how scouts can be, Lord only knows what kind of recipes they are teaching him!!!!

He is also working on the wood crafting badge - You know what these two things have in common??...........You guessed it - knives!! I sure hope he comes home with the same number of fingers as he left with!!!

Very ! Just think, he'll come home a !!

I think all kids should learn to cook. DS#1 Luke wishes he had cooked more at home! Now that he's on his own down at Disney, he is learning more and more how to follow a recipe!

Both my Dsons went to BSC and had a blast! Glad your Dson is too! It's a great program!

I think it's a wonderful idea for all kids to know how to cook. DMiL used to brag to me that only TWO of her FIVE kids knew how to cook when they left the house, and only ONE knew how to do laundry!! (Thank goodness, DH knew BOTH!!)
The other siblings are still all pretty bad cooks. Laundry they're not to great at either.

One of my favorite dinners I learned at GS camp. Fork Tacos. You take a bag of doritoes (I do nacho cheese) and crush them into crumbs. You put the crumbs on a plate then build your "taco" on top of it. Then eat it with a fork instead of with yoru hands.
Note: be careful crushing the doritoes - my DBro exploded a bag when we were teens - he was a little over enthusiastic I guess!

That sounds good!! I'll have to try that.
DS cooked spaghetti, burgers, grilled cheese and learned about diseases food can carry, how to cook stuff, what to cook stuff on, symptoms of food borne diseases and such. I'm now being seranaded by the Pepto Bismal commercial!!! Guess it went well, but I still need to talk to the Scoutmaster.

As a girl scout counselor we did Walking Tacos...everyone had a bag of frito lays and we had ground meat to the bag lettuce tomatoes and sour cream and then ate it out of the bag with a fork...it was a big hit with the girls.
