I have one, too, don't remember the brand, but it's red and I got it at K-Mart...LOVE it! I grew up with one that a Japanese friend gave my mom, but the new ones are much easier (no more measuring water into the base under the pan...)

I've had a rice cooker for ages! We use it multiple times a week, for cooking rice and also other grains. Ours is getting really old, and I need to replace it someday, but I'm so used to how it works I don't want to have to learn another one! Ours is just pour in the liquid and the rice cover it, push a button... 20mins later--- RICE!!

As MontiMouse surely knows, if you live in south LA, you cannot live without a rice cooker! I recently got a NONSTICK!!!! one from Hsn made by Wolfgang Puck and LOVE IT!! I've also made a mac and cheese, meat sauce pasta, and chocolate cake in it. The nonstick was a new thing for me, and after YEARS of soaking and scrubbing the old pot, omg it is SUCH a difference!

Yes, here in south LA no kitchen is complete without a rice cooker! I was wondering how good those nonstick ones are, glad you posted. I figured when my little one that I use the most dies I will get a nonstick one.

Haha funny that you say that- the reason I am even asking is that I ate at a Cajun place and the chef came out and sat with us for a sec and I told him the meal was great but the rice was the BEST and he told me the best way to cook rice was with a rice cooker!
Next question- what kind of rice do youuse?? (long grain- short grain? )

I have the Pampered Chef one (I used to be a consultant), but honestly, I never make rice in it and don't even know how. I've used it to make Lava Cake, which is really a yummy moist cake and I think it can only be made in the PC version or one similar.

Sheila, I use long grain rice. I also use a little more water than my rice cooker calls for, otherwise I find the rice isn't as fluffy as I'd like. You might need to experiment a little with whatever one you buy.

ok the name of the rice I use is botan its in the japanese section at the store, the reason we have used this rice is an old friend of ours who is japanese recommended this style as the closest to "japanese rice" there is in america... and yes have a rice cooker, there is no other way!!!!!!
