| I do! Hubby and I are determined to improve our diet. Last week we went shopping at Whole Foods and our local fruit stand and our bill was over $120, and it was almost all produce! I also want to learn about growing our own herbs because we waste so much when I have to buy the bunches at the produce stand. Jennifer |

| Oh oh pick me! I am planting some carrots, onions, cucumbers, tomatos, peppers, and I am going to do a windo herb garden too. I love fresh herbs, but hate buying them at the store because they go bad before I can use them completely up!

| I would like to try and grow some things this year...we get so many animals and bugs around here though...I'd have to stand guard at all times to protect them! I have seen planting packages for strawberries and tomatoes on tv before, they are self contained and you can grow em on the porch instead of in your yard...Maybe we'll give it a go this year.

| Last year we planted cherry tomatoes, green peppers, beans, broccoli, and a bunch of herbs (spearmint, rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil). The broccoli grew too big and just took over (as did the spearmint). This year instead of broccoli, I'm going to do cucumbers. And maybe some green onions too!

Did you grow in pots or in beds on the ground? How did you deal with bugs and animals?

| I have planted in my garden for the last five years. I grow 3 types of tomatoes, cucumbers, green and red peppers, and yellow squash. I also plant red leaf lettuce in the early spring. This year I would also like to grow some peas. They need to go in early, and for whatever the reason, each year I miss the prime planting time for them. A few people have asked about what to do with bugs and animals. I usually plant marigolds around the outside of the garden to keep some of the little critters out. As for bugs, I have never really had a problem, so no advice there.

| Good idea. I plan on planting a pot of tomatoes and a pot of cucumbers. They'll sit in our landscaped area on the south side of the house.

| Thank you, thank you, thank you for starting this thread... I have tried planting a garden, in addition to NOT having a green thumb, I have soil that consists of mainly clay and limestone, deer and every other creature that comes out of the woodwork. Went to potted plants and have done it for 2 years in a row. First year was a bust and second year, I think I yielded 3 tomatoes and 4 green peppers and one cucumber...that was it and they weren't anything to write home about! I would love tips too!!!
