Anyone here a sufferer??
My DH has this condition and we have been searching to find some kind of "cure" or at least treatment. A hearing aid will cost upwards of $2000 and that's just for one....he needs two. My lovely insurance only covers about $250 ONCE a year.....really great, huh?? We bought him one a few years ago and he left it in him pants pocket on the bedroom floor.....yeah, you guessed it, he stepped on it - $1800 out the window!!!
I have seen ads and heard radio spots about this product and that product that will "Silence the Ringing...." Have a hard time believing this. Also, one of the biggies won't tell you in any of their ads or on their website what is in the product...only that it is a "proprietary formula." Hello, I want to know what I'm about to give DH!!!!! Another product is "calcarea carbonica" and when I goggle that - the description of what it is used for basically makes it sound like a miracle drug for everything from being cold to the rining in your ears!!!! I think I'm going to lose my mind and I'm pretty sure that DH is going to lose his if we don't find something to help him.
Anyone out there have any suggestions???

I had it for a while in one ear several years ago. Even had an MRI of my head to see what could be causing it. They couldn't find anything. It eventually went away on it's own, thank goodness.
My father currently has this problem and has been told by a specialist there is not much to be done. But we live in Canada and don't always have access to all that is available. There is some kind of biorhythm method where you learn to tune out the frequency of the ringing in your ears. Can take quite a bit of time to learn but is supposed to be effective.
It must maddening to never have a quiet moment. Hope you find something that works.
Try increasing your zinc consumption or try ginko, black cohosh or hawthorn. Black cohosh has shown promise in studies. This may sound crazy but have you had your ears professionally cleaned? Sometimes when we clean our ears we just pack the wax further in. An ENT can do a professional cleaning for you and it might work or at least reduce symptoms. <-- I had that problem. Silly me. I didn't know there was a right and wrong way to clean ears.
The only suggestion I have is to "listen through it". My ears have been ringing continuously for probably 20 years due to a hereditary thing. I have never found anything that relieves it other than to just listen through it. One time I read that if you lie on your back on your bed or a bench and hang your head over the edge so it is upside down, it does something to the pressure in your ear canal and fixes the problem. It didn't work for me. Eventually it just became normal to have a high pitched squeal in my ears at all times. I have no idea what complete silence sounds like anymore. :::shrug::: My Dad has it too and he said the only time in 50 years that his ears quit ringing was a year ago when he had his appendix removed. When he told me that, I wanted to know caused it! They had given him some pain reliever and when he told them that the ringing in his ears had stopped (!!!!!) he wanted to know what it was and if he could get some to use for that purpose. But sadly, no. Apparently it will cause deadly heart problems if you take it for more than a couple days.
I've also heard that sometimes high blood pressure will cause your ears to ring. So maybe your DH just needs to have his blood pressure checked.
I have had it ever since I was a little kid. I've been to ENT specialists a couple of times, and there really is not much that can be done to treat it. I think some of the things that claim to cure it are scams. I find that I don't notice it as much if there is noise in my environment, such as the TV or radio. Mine tends to be worse if I have a cold or sinus infection. I've also heard that taking aspirin can make it worse. Good luck to your DH.

I will have him start with a good quality multi vitamin - that certainly hurt him! Plus I have a friend who does ear candling and that is a great way to clean out ears. Will have to make him an appointment.

Luckily he has had his blood pressure checked recently and it's really good, in fact it's below what is considered normal.
