We finally tried the Rose & Crown this past weekend and loved it! My DH & I had the Cottage Pie and our boys had the fish & chips. Everyone loved what they had. I was wondering if anyone on here has the real recipe from the Rose & Crown. The recipes online only show a few of the ingredients used, so I'm skeptical about it being an authentic recipe. Crossing my fingers! Thanks!
As it's a British staple, I knew I could easily find some recipes... of course they may not necessarily make sense, as we have different names for some ingredients and tend to use the metric measuring system. Try these:
To the OP: I haven't had the one at Rose and Crown so can't speak to that. But as to the limited ingredients -- the recipe online looks very much like what my mom used to make. It was one way she'd use up leftover mashed potatoes.
Isn't the difference between cottage pie and shepherd's pie that cottage pie uses beef and sheperd's pie has lamb?

I don't know. We always used ground beef in Canada because from my part, lamb was never very common. I have never had lamb til I met some Auzzies that cooked it. Hmmm...... But I do like this variation. Oh, and I never used nutmeg in mine, til a friend from South Africa put some in hers and it tasted so yummy. So now I cook more with nutmeg than I have before.
