low fat brownies, cake mixes, etc. Has anyone ever tried substituting applesauce for oil in brownie or cake mixes? Do you still add the eggs and water as usual? Any other suggestions to cut calories/fat are appreciated!

Re: low fat brownies, cake mixes, etc. Yes, I'm a big fan of low-fat cooking and substitute the oil with applesause. You still use the eggs and water, but I only use egg whites. There's a line of low- and no-fat brownie mix called No Pudge Brownies and they're out of this world. I find them in the natural food section in the grocery store.

Re: low fat brownies, cake mixes, etc. MichelleC, you might try looking in a health food store if you have one for the No Pudge Brownies. Our grocery stores don't carry them, but our one health food store does!

Re: low fat brownies, cake mixes, etc. Linda, thanks I will look for them! Just wanted to say that I made a red velvet cake mix and a brownie mix substituting applesauce for the oil, and they turned out great! You guys should try it sometime!

Re: low fat brownies, cake mixes, etc. I also use the applesauce in recipes -- to help curb the calories. Works great. As for those "No Pudge Brownies..." I will have to look for them. Funny name! Michelle

Re: low fat brownies, cake mixes, etc. No Pudge Brownies are excellent -- check out their website www.nopudge.com for more info, including a store listing by state, ordering info, ingredients, etc. [ 02-19-2003, 10:49 AM: Message edited by: whoSEZ ]

Re: low fat brownies, cake mixes, etc. I found and made the "No Pudge brownies," and one word.... YUMMY! I decided to make "brownie sundaes" with them, and put a scoop of no-sugar added ice-cream along side of a brownie. Then drizzled a bit of Hershey's syrup over the top. Even my DH gave them two huge thumbs-up. Michelle
