LOST 2/21 Discussion *Possible SPOILERS*

No Lost thread for last night? Okay, so apparently y'all were about as impressed as I was. What can I say except: YAWN! What a boring episode. Please be better next week or Lost will lose me. It's just not worth staying up that late for anymore. So what about Jack's tatoos! Maybe they do mean something but did they have to spend practically the entire show about them? I think maybe Cindy and the other people that were there with her may have been brain washed like they were trying to do to Carl. Really bizarre. Let's get back to the main island with the more interesting Losties, please!

I have to agree, last night didn't do it for me. Did you catch at the beginning that we would learn the answers to 3 of the biggest questions? What were they?

I need to watch again, because at the very point when the asian girl was telling Jack what he was, my DD rattled her popcorn bag to where I didn't hear what she said. I heard a leader... <rattle rattle rattle rattle> ...angry. And why did getting that tattoo make everyone else beat the snot out of him? I don't get it. What is the signficance of the meaning of the tattoo, is it a clue to something that I have missed?

I'm really ready to learn what happened to Walt and Michael. How can they just drop that whole storyline?

OK, I watched last night and since I'm not a huge Jack fan...having all the stuff with tattoo lady in Phuket was just ok. She said she could read people and when Jack forced her to...said that he was a leader and ? , two good qualities. Which she followed up with some qualities that weren't so good (why can't I remember these things). He then forced her to tatoo him even though it would only bring trouble and was against her people. I don't think we'll ever find out why those guys really beat him up.

As far as learning 3 big things... here's my thoughts--

Ben really is the leader. That is forever cleared up. If he can commute a sentence...he's the dictator.

The people who were taken...are OK , and living like the others. (What creeped me out about them, was that they were not concerned about the fact that Jack was behind bars looking a mess. Don't you think they'd question that? )

There is a boat, a large one, to move the Others between Islands; one is where they live, the other where they work.

I loved Sawyer last night. Way to assert yourself buddy.

I liked the Bobby Brady comment last night. Karl says,"Who?" Maybe he's been on the island all of his life, or maybe he's just being the typical teen.

If it wasn't for Sawyer being on with his one-liners (among other things), I wouldn't be able to get through the really boring episodes . Next week looks more interesting since they appear to be back with the original Losties.

I think maybe Cindy and the other people with her have been brainwashed and that's why she didn't ask why Jack was in the cage. It really upset Jack when she said the little girl wanted to know how Ana Lucia was.

I'm guessing that the Others are taking Jack to the island that we saw at the beginning of this season. The one that has the nice homes with the nice yards.

I liked it better when they were being chased by the polar bears and the black smoke.

Yes, they do have a really nice boat, don't they? Obviously this is how they move so easily between the two islands. I guess that means that there is no tunnel connecting the two. Now, my next question is, is their "home" on the same island as the crash survivors, or was that another outlying island? I'm still hung up on Ethan and Goodwin's comment about making it there on foot in an hour, in the first episode this season. (I know, I know, I sound like a broken record on that one!)

So I wonder if Ben is going to follow through with letting Juliet and Jack leave? I guess for the time being he needs Jack. It was interesting to find out that Ethan was a surgeon.

Well, we learned how Jack got part of his tattoos. But that was only the bottom portion. What about the "5" and the rest of the design?

I guess the other survivors who have been brainwashed also believe that what was done to them was for the best, and therefore Jack being in a cage is just him not "realizing" yet that all this is in his best interest, as they seem to believe.

I'm glad they're leaving this island, since it didn't seem that we were going to be getting any more answers about what is really going on there. Maybe when they get back "home" we will start to learn more. And if they're leaving the creepy experiment island, does that mean Jack can now live semi-civilized, or will they still keep him locked up, or handcuffed? He certainly gave the impression that he is pretty settled about staying with them for some time and not escaping. Another thing I found interesting was the comment that some of them don't like coming to this island. I wonder how many of them were lured here like Juliet was and want to leave but are being held against their will. Do they do experiments (like the sleep deprivation) as punishment, or as part of some ongoing project? Maybe that's why they dread coming, if they know they will once again have to go through who knows what.

Will Karl really try to go back to Alex? He seemed pretty scared by that option, but apparently truly loves her. I, too, liked how Sawyer took charge. I'm starting to get rather annoyed with Kate and last night showed that he is too.

Why DID Jack lie for Juliet? And how did they know he was lying? It sure shut him up pretty quick! The relationship between these two is very interesting. I'm still not sure if she can really be trusted. Jack seems to be caught there also, being pulled in one moment, then getting wary the next. The end of the episode made it seem as if they are going to end up being close.

Programming note: next week is a flashback featuring Hurley, guest starring Cheech Marin as his father!

I was too tired to start a thread this morning! LOL

I still have faith in this show. I think it's all going to come together in one big "AH HAAAAAAA" moment. I'm not giving up!

I would like to know where Walt and Michael are.

I also think that maybe the kids and the flight attendant are brainwashed. But how would the little girl have known that Jack knew Ana Lucia if Ana Lucia originally started out on the other part of the island and those castaways didn't know that the other group survived???

Ms. Tattoo Artist told Jack he was a leader, angry and alone. So, I assumed that's what his tattoos meant. But then What's Her Name said his tattoos said "He walks among us but is not one of us" to which Jack says "That's what they say, but not what they mean"...well, what is THAT supposed to mean exactly?

And Juliette gave it away, I think...Ben refers to the island as "home". Ben told Jack and Juliette they were going home...home as in off the experimental island and back to the original island..."home"???

I'm glad Juliette was spared. I can't read her 100% yet, but I like her.

Oh, and I think the 5 in Jack's tattoo refers to Party of Five. Those tattoos are real, he had them on SNL a few weeks back, so they'll have to work that 5 into Lost somehow!

Here's another thing!!! Juliette's been marked...what does the mark mean?? Who else has been marked??? Aside from plotting to kill your group's leader, what else is grounds for marking???

I caught the Bobby Brady comment too - does that mean that they haven't been around normal society? Even my kids know who the Brady Bunch are.

The mark - I forgot about the mark Jen. Yeah, wonder what that means? Big deal, marked on her back, nodoby would see it unless she wears a bikini or something. When I hear mark I think Hester-Prynne-big-red-A-on-the-front mark.

Great input guys! I love getting other views.

The Bobby Brady thing was funny to me....cause I had just watched an episode of it that afternoon. We DVR an episode every day.

The "Mark"--yes, another question to be answered. We'd better start looking at people's backs for it.

If you read lostpedia (a Wikipedia for Losties), they give info on Juliet's mark. They also state the theory that it's got biblical overtones and, like Caine, Juliet can't be killed because she's been marked. But it also suggests that she's being "shunned" now.

About Michael and Walt - I read an article by two of the producers, and they said we won't know more about them until Season 4.

Can't wait to see Hurley's flashback - he's one of my favorites!

I really enjoyed this episode (we just watched it from last night! ) I love the Others and am desperate to find out more about them, so I guess I've got a different view on this episode. I thought the stuff about that island being just for "work" and them not wanting to come there was fascinating. I'm also looking forward to seeing their home and I'm assuming it was the place we saw at the start of the season with the nice homes.

It's good to see so many new faces arriving in the Others as well - gives lots of potential for learning about these new characters, rather than returning to go over the old ones AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN. The couple of episodes with Juliet and Desmond were a very pleasant change for exactly that reason and I hope they continue with the trend, rather than concentrating on the people that we've learnt so much about already.

I'm also enjoyed Jack and Juliet's relationship and the one between Kate and Sawyer - my goodness, that's changed a lot in recent weeks hasn't it? One minute they're all over each other and the next minute they're distant as anything.

Fascinating stuff and I hope it's not going to be too long before we journey to the Others' "home" island. I can't wait to see that!

Jack's tattoos - was it the fact that he had been marked that got him beat up in Phuket? Because if they say what the new Other woman says, obviously the Thai guys knew he wasn't one of them, so they couldn't have been mad about what the marks said. It must go back to what the girl told him - it was against her people to mark him. Why on earth was he so adamant about being marked? And why wasn't he marked with the traits the girl described instead of some cryptic remarks?

I had read somewhere that somebody thought his "5" tattoo had significance to the show because of the story he told Kate on the first episode, which she repeated to him recently - that he let the fear take hold of him for 5 seconds, then moved on to what he had to do. I'm just curious to see if they show in another flashback about him getting the rest of the tattoo.

What did Jack mean at the end of the episode when he said That's what it says, but not what it means? Does that mean he considers himself one of them now? Or was he referring to the experience of getting marked, and that the experience means much more to him than what the characters say?

Hadn't thought about the girl asking about Ana-Lucia. I'm sure Cindy told the girl about the Tailies, that they were all traveling back to the other survivors' camp - remember that's when she was taken by the Others, as they were lifting Sawyer on his stretcher up the cliff. So Cindy doesn't know that Ana-Lucia died, or about anything else that happened to the other tailies. I was going to say that Ben could have let something slip about seeing Ana-Lucia, but I don't think he would make that kind of mistake, and I'm not sure he has much contact with the "commoners".

I'm glad that everybody that was taken by the Others appears to be OK, I assume the large group of people that came to "watch" was everybody that was taken from the tailie section. They lost a lot of people those first few nights on the island. And I wish we had found out what it was they intended to watch.

The Brady Bunch? I guess they restrict what everybody can watch, especially with Karl being younger, he may not have the same privileges as the older Others. ??

Hadn't thought about Ben referring to "home" as their home island, as opposed to the real world. Maybe he never intended to allow Juliet to leave in the first place. But when he told Jack he would let him leave, he was showing him a video tape of the World Series, and told Jack that that was home, and that if he would do the surgery he would take him there. Still a little cryptic, though.
