| I am not into Harry Potter all like that. I have seen some of the movies and started to read the first book but never finished. I like Harry Potter but I am not into like some people are. |

| Never read the books, never saw any movies. Just not my thing. If my kids were older and they were into it, then it might be a different story. But for now, nope.

| well were just the oppisite,, we have all the books and all 4 dvd's... at least two nights a week one of the dvd's is playing, even my 4 yr ds could tell you every thing about any one of the shows. he can't wait for the new movie to come out. i didn't like it at first but after seeing it so many times it kind of grows on you. it's interseting to see how the main characters have grow up with each show.

| We're not into them. DD is at the point where she could start reading the books by herself, and I've asked her, but she doesn't want to. I don't think she like that type of storyline so I haven't pushed it at this point ![]()

| Nope, we do not allow it in our house. We do not like the values and messages it sends to kids. My sister on the other hand is all about it. Told me yesterday that she already had her tickets for the Wednesday premiere and I know she owns all the books, previous DVDs, special bookends, etc. Personally, we like LOTR trilogy much better. It is after all classic literature.

| Harry Potter is a great series. No, it's not classic literature, but a great story with some wonderful characters. I don't really understand when people say they don't like the "values" and "messages" of the books. And those messages are: how love conquers even the worst evil. How important family is. How important it is to stand up for what you believe in, even if it seems everyone is against you. Yep, those are some really bad values.

![]() I also don't get the whole "classic literature" thing. What makes something a classic? The fact that it's been around for 50+ years? There are some classics, like, Jane Eyre, or Little Women, that, while they're good books, just really aren't relevant anymore for our times. Personally, as someone who's always love to read, and who gets really sad at the lack of reading that children do these days, I think that anything that gets a child excited to read is an amazing thing. Dawn, to answer your question, I don't think it's weird that your family hasn't read the books or seen the movies...if your girls like to read in general, then I'm satisfied. But then again, if you never give something a chance, how do you know if you'll like it or not? I think the thing about HP that really surprises adults is how it's not just simple plot lines and easy to read words. These are books that are actually well-written and, as poohmaine said, full of moral dilemmas and valuable life-lessons. *Steps off soapbox.

| My oldest son had the books and I watched the first movie when it came out. But, i am hooked now. One evening, I was looking for something to do and had read everything that I own and didn't feel like going to the library right then. So I picked up Book 1 and started reading them. I was hooked. It really is a good story with wonderful caring characters. I am a reader. I love all types of books and I really did/do enjoy them. I am not one that will go stand in line when it comes out, but I will read it. Not everybody likes the same thing, that is what makes people interesting and different. But I didn't think I would like them either, but I am glad that I gave them a try. |

| I know a not of people who haven't read the books or seen the movies. It just doesn't appeal to everyone. A lady here at work wasn't comfortable with letting her kids read the books or watch the movies, so I lent her my copies of the books. She really liked them and decided that it wasn't as "bad" as she thought. She had been told at church that it was very satanic and the kids shouldn't read it. Her kids heard other kids at school talking about it and were wanting to read them. She has read all the books and has seen all the movies. She did like the fact there was "lessons" within the stories. I can say that they are not for everyone. I have a friend that has read the first book, liked it, but didn't like it enough to read the second one. He said that it just didn't pull him in like some other books. So, maybe you read the first one and see how you like it. Michael

| Dawn (and others) I can understand not being interested in fantasy books or movies. Maybe that's not what you find interesting. But I find it hard to have an opinion on something I haven't read or seen. How do you know you won't enjoy them until you've tried? I'd have missed out on some great movies and books if someone hadn't recommended them to me. And there have been some that are highly thought of, that I didn't care at all for. Personally, I love Harry Potter, both the books and the movies. I am an adventure type of gal and those stories are right up my alley. I love how the characters are so kind and loving and stick up for one another, even in the face of terrible hardship.
