I remember The Wonderful World of Disney. We didn't have a TV. We'd go to Grandma and Grandpa's on Saturday while mom worked (she was a nurse), watch Lawrence Welk (The Torturous One as DSis and I dubbed him) on Sat., go to church in the morning, do our chores at G&G's, and then.... the prize!!! That Tinkerbell scene would start!!!!!!!! ONe of my fondest memories.
The showed different movies, a lot of nature documentaries, "talks with Walt Disney", and all sorts of other things. I know I was just fascinated by the whole thing.
Of course, that was when there were 5 channels, and four of them had the news on!

Totally remember Wonderful World of Disney! Had to do the bath & all before it (it spared me Omaha & LW show ). I remember Walt talking & I thought he could really see me & hear me! Didn't they also show movies like "Return to Witch Mountain", "Apple Dumpling Gang", etc...? Loved it and I'm sorry, even though they show movies I like, it's just not the same feel as back in the good ole days

Oh man, I remember having to sit through Lawrence Welk if Gramma was there, otherwise we got to watch Lassie before Wild Kingdom and Wonderful World of Disney! We were always so excited to see what Mr. Disney had in store for us each week! My dad remembers seeing the Contemporary Resort being built on one episode, and vowed then and there that he would stay in that hotel someday. His dream came true in November of 1994 when we all took a family vacation to WDW!

Speaking of nostalgia, I'm sure only those of us who grew up in or around Chicagoland will remember another Sunday favorite - Frazier Thomas hosting "Family Classics" on WGN every Sunday afternoon! I remember checking the TV Guide each week to see what movie would be showing - "Lassie Come Home", "Journey to the Center of the Earth", "The Time Machine", "Treasure Island" - those were the classics!!
Wow, I thought I was the only "older generation" one here. I left the Chicago area in 1967 and was unable to get "Family Classics" until the cable era. I grew up watching Garfield Goose and Friends and Bozo's Circus also. I was away during the Ray Rayner era though. Thanks for the nice memories.

Sunday night was the only night I was allowed to eat in front of the TV, but if I was really good during the week I had a kid's size table set up in the living room and got to watch during dinner. It was the greatest!

Ray Rayner!!! We couldn't get through the day without watching Ray first thing in the morning before we'd go to school! He'd give the weather report so you'd know what to wear that day. I loved all those old cartoons and Diver Dan. And I was always excited when his duck Chauncey came to visit and eat lettuce... I loved Ray Rayner.

And Bozo!! We used to walk home for lunch every day - no, RUN home so we could watch Bozo's Circus. And hope they would pull your name out of the drum for the Grand Prize Game!!

I'd give anything for a video-release of some of these old shows...

You bet I remember Sunday nights! Fairly large set with a smaller screen -b&w. It was the only night of the week in which we ate in front of the tube. Sunday nights were also Mexican food nights and I have vivid memories of my mon making tostados, tacos and enchiladas. We always ate on TV trays and watched Disney. I will always remember the thrill of hearing the opening music and seeing Tink.

I was also banned from watching Lassie as a child because I would go into hysterics when Lassie was driven away in the truck, etc. Jeez, memories.

"The world is a carosel of color....wonderful, wonderful, color...." I tell my kids that the reason I love DW so much is because when I was a kid and watched that show, I knew there was 0% my parents would take me to Disneyland. When I married and had my own kids, I HAD to go to Disney World. I watched "advertisements" for it every Sunday night.
