| Favorite Screen Character Meltdowns [SPOILERS] There are the obvious ones such as Jack Nicholson in The Shining. One of my favorites is Fritz Weaver in Fail Safe as he is being taken away by MPs shouting, "I'm better than you!" Another is Colin Friels in Dark City, although he was already off his rocker when he appeared on screen. That movie would have been much better if it centered on his character. |

| Oh, I love this question!! Al Pacino in Insomnia!!! You know why I like it? It's very Shakespeare-esque. His little trip into madness is amazing. It's amazing!

| Sally Fields in Steel Magnolias. When she has her meltdown after Shelby's funeral and all the girls are there and Claree grabs Ouiser and says "Here, Hit This! Go ahead M'Lynn slap her!"

| Another vote for the American Psycho phone booth scene. I wouldn't call it a meltdown per se, but I love when Al Pacino gets all fired up during the disciplinary hearing in Scent of A Women. Jack Nicholson on the stand in A Few Good Men. Edward Norton losing his reality in Fight Club...especially at the end...in the empty building... (Don't want to ruin it for anyone who still hasn't seen it and intends to) And for a funnier meltdown, I love the scene in Zoolander when he (Ben Stiller) goes back to his "coal mining town" in New Jersey and yells at his dad (Jon Voight) about "merMEN"

| More votes for Peter Flinch in Network and Sally Field in Steel Magnolias. I like Tom Cruise's meltdown early on in Jerry Maguire.

| My favorite "melt down" is actually one that is so cute and sweet -- in Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson. When Eleanor learns that Edward Ferrars has not married Lucy Steele. She starts to blubber and her mom and sisters rush from the room, leaving her with Edward so they can sort things out. After a few seconds of this building hysteria, she throws back her head and gives him the greatest watery smile. ![]() Eileen
