| OMGosh - what a cast!! (I just checked it out on IMDB - Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) - Full cast and crew ) It's one of my favorite musicals and I remember wearing out the tape (back in the day ) during college... Can't wait for the movie -- hope Burton doesn't "mess" with the music or libretto too much.![]() Eileen

| I'm surprised my oldest DD hasn't mentioned anything about this to me - I'm passing the trailer link on to her - thanks for sharing! Yes, I'm hearin' Capt. Jack in there - hopefully we can get past that, but I'm looking forward to seeing it. |

| Definitely on my must see list!!! I've loved the musical for years (Patti Lupone is wonderful in it) and of course - the Johnny/Tim pairing is always good.

| SPOILER!!!!!!!! For those of you who have never heard of Sweeney Todd, may I suggest a quick trip to Amazon.com to listen to some of the music and perhaps read about the plat. It is defintitely NOT family fare and as a film, it will be much more graphic. It is a devilishly hard musical to perform (yet one of our favorites) but much of the appeal lies in the imagination. Blood and gore are the centerpieces of this show as men's throats are cut and then their bodies rendered into meat pies, which are sold in Mrs. Lovett's Pie Shop. On the stage, one never sees an atual murder as they are represented by sound and light effects, but, of course, the movie will take this further and the gore will be front and center. In almost every production, Mrs. Lovett is played with humor and a twisted sense of humor that somehow makes her a bit endearing, but, again, I think that will not be the case with Helena Bonham Carter. It looks to be more of a "Jack the Ripper meets a twisted Sherlock Holmes". The jury is out on this one for me- I'll wait for some revues and watch my favorite DVD of the staged concert version of "Sweeney" with Patti LuPone and George Hearn (it is available in many libraries, so have a look!).

| I'm a bit confused. Is this a musical or not? I see Sondheim is listed as a writer, but judging by the trailer, more is spoken than sung. I saw the recent B'way revival w/ Patti Lupone and Michael Cervais and while I liked the music, the staging was odd, to say the least. The set was minimalist and there was no orchestra, with the actors playing their own instruments, even after their character was "killed".
